Wustrow between the Baltic Sea and Saaler Bodden
Accommodation in Wustrow
Wustrow lies between the Baltic Sea and Saaler Bodden. Fine sandy beaches, a rugged cliff-lined coast, gentle meadows and reed beds shape the landscape. For your stay, this means a choice of different perspectives: hiking trails follow the cliffs, cross the dike or run along the Bodden; Zeesboat trips and Bodden cruises depart from the harbor. If you are looking for a hotel in Wustrow, the focus of your trip can help determine when you visit.
Sailing and boat trips
From May to October, guests can join trips aboard the “Butt” or “Bill” Zeesboats from Wustrow harbor. Sturdy Rügenjollen dinghies can also be rented at the harbor for half a day or a full day. Joining a Zeesboat trip and renting a dinghy for a set period are two different ways to spend time on the water. Check the operating details of the seasonal Zeesboat trips before your visit; dinghy availability and rental conditions may change.
Wustrow harbor is home to the only sailing school on Fischland. It offers beginner and advanced courses for all age groups, as well as courses for sport boat licenses and VHF radio certificates. The course offerings may change; if a particular course will shape your stay, it is best to enquire in advance. The traditional “MS Boddenkieker” ferry service also connects Ribnitz-Damgarten, Dierhagen and Wustrow via Saaler Bodden. It runs up to three times a day. As routes and frequencies may change seasonally, check the timetable if you plan to take this crossing.
On foot, by bike and on the Bodden
From Wustrow, hiking trails follow the cliffs to Ahrenshoop, cross the dike to Dierhagen, and run along the Bodden to Althäger Harbor and on to Born and Wieck. This gives you a choice of different directions and landscapes for your walks on land. Local route conditions may vary.
The Fischland-Darß route of the Baltic Sea Coast Cycle Route also passes through Wustrow: it follows the cliffs towards Ahrenshoop. Check local signage and route conditions. Those interested in birdlife can consider Bodden cruises from Wustrow. They offer opportunities to observe native seabird species and migratory birds in their natural habitat; sightings are not guaranteed.
The Fischländer Kurwald is located in the Baltic seaside resort of Wustrow, right in front of the dike and close to the beach. Its accessible recreational activities promote health and medical prevention and are suitable for all age groups. Families with children can also discover the figures along the legend trail there; QR codes link to the stories.
Culture and event dates
The Wustrow Culture Trail follows blue stones. Contemporary artists present changing exhibitions at the Haus des Gastes and the Fischlandhaus. As exhibition programs change, check what is currently on display before visiting if you are interested.
The Wustrow Zeesboat Regatta takes place every year on the first weekend in July. The Baltic seaside resort of Wustrow celebrates its pier festival on the last Sunday in August; dates may vary from year to year. Check current event dates and the program before your trip if you would like to plan your stay around a festival.
