Eslohe (Sauerland): Half-timbered houses, museum and cycling
Accommodation in Eslohe
Eslohe (Sauerland) is located in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park and is a state-recognized climatic health resort. The townscape, the DampfLandLeute Museum and various leisure activities offer different points of interest. If you are looking for hotels for a stay, your choice may depend on whether you would rather focus on local history, technology, cycling or other leisure activities.
Historic town center and architectural history
In the historic town center, half-timbered houses around 200 years old stand around the parish church of St. Peter and Paul. The half-timbering and the church give the center a distinct historic character. This makes the townscape a focus in its own right when planning your trip, alongside the museum and leisure activities: the houses and their approximate age point to the area’s architectural history, while the parish church is the named focal point of the historic center.
DampfLandLeute Museum: exhibits and steam engines
The DampfLandLeute Museum is located in a side valley of the state-recognized climatic health resort of Eslohe. Its permanent exhibition covers agriculture, forestry, village crafts, folklore and technology. The topics range from agricultural and forestry work to crafts and technical subjects; the exhibition is not limited to a single area. If you are interested in cultural and technological history, you will find several subject areas in one place.
Historic steam engines are also part of the museum’s offerings: they are operated at least twice a year during the Steam Days. The museum railway’s timetable is separate. From April to October, it runs with a diesel locomotive on the first Saturday of each month from 3 to 5 p.m. As seasonal operating arrangements may change, check the current running date before planning a visit.
Cycling: SauerlandRadring and bike course
The 84-kilometer SauerlandRadring connects Finnentrop, Eslohe, Schmallenberg and Lennestadt. Eslohe is therefore part of a cycling route whose total length takes in several towns.
Another cycling option is the Eslohe Bike Course at the Eslohe Fun & Sports Facility. Its features include dirt lines, jumps at three difficulty levels, a flow trail and a large pump track. The two cycling options differ in format: the SauerlandRadring connects several towns over a longer route, while the course brings together various features at one facility. This lets you choose between a route that spans several towns and an offering with specific course features.
Swimming pools and mini golf
Eslohe’s leisure options include an indoor pool, a heated outdoor pool and mini-golf courses. The two pools offer different kinds of swimming, while mini golf adds another leisure option. In the wider Hochsauerlandkreis destination, the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park also offers opportunities for hiking and cycling, environmental education facilities, and underground tours. The local pools and mini-golf courses are among the leisure options in Eslohe; hiking, cycling, environmental education facilities and underground tours are offered by the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park in the wider Hochsauerlandkreis destination.
