Walking Trails and Routes in Oberhenneborn
Several shorter walking trails lead from the village centre. The Habichtsweg, about 3 km long, offers a view of Oberhenneborn. The Kuhweg, about 4 km long, is described as easy and also offers a lovely view of the village. The Eulenweg, about 5.7 km long, runs along the Henne. The trails therefore differ in length and in their named feature: views are noted for the Habichtsweg and Kuhweg, while the Eulenweg is characterised by its route along the river. Only the Kuhweg is described as easy.
After 400 metres, the Habichtsweg reaches the Kreuzkapelle. The Golddorf Route starts at the Peace Oak in Oberhenneborn and is marked throughout with a gold G on a red background. It leads to a rock known as the “Henneborner Loreley”. The starting point, trail markings, and named destination are specific landmarks to help you choose between the trails and routes described.
The “Auf dem Kreuz” viewpoint offers a different focus: from there, you can look out over Oberhenneborn, and there is a wayside shrine at the viewpoint. It can be reached on foot from the village car parks, as well as via the photo route. On this route, the old bakehouse in Oberhenneborn is Stop 2. The viewpoint offers a view of Oberhenneborn; on the photo route, the old bakehouse is Stop 2.
Church, Chapels, and Local History
Oberhenneborn has a Catholic church dedicated to Saint Agatha. The Stations of the Cross include a chapel. The present-day Kreuzkapelle on the nearby mountain pass was built in 1996 through the efforts of the village community. The church, Stations of the Cross, and chapel give the village’s history a religious dimension; the year and the community’s own efforts also tell the story of how the present-day Kreuzkapelle came to be.
Another piece of local history is embodied in the “Henneborner Eule” emblem. It was once stamped on iron goods made by local smithies. This links the emblem to a specific craft tradition: it appeared on goods from the smithies, rather than serving merely as an abstract village motif. Together with the old bakehouse and the religious buildings, it offers different perspectives on Oberhenneborn’s history.
