Trails and landscape around Werntrop
The BR2 circular trail starts near the Wehrscheid hiking car park. It heads towards HĂĽlsberg and Auergang, then passes Ă–senberg and Hoher Hagen, offering views of Werntrop and other villages along the way. If you plan to explore on foot, check trail conditions before setting out.
The Bauernland cycling route runs through meadows and fields, passing through Felbecke, Selkentrop and Werntrop on its way to Bracht. Unlike the BR2, the focus here is on the route through several villages and on cycling; the circular trail’s specific points of reference are the hiking car park, named landmarks and viewpoints. State Road 737 also runs through Werntrop. The Heidenstraße passes through the village via Ostenberg towards Wormbach.
The Offenlandkomplex Werntrop/Selkentrop/Felbecke landscape conservation area lies around Werntrop. Its name includes three villages, pointing to a landscape that extends beyond Werntrop itself. The protected area describes a different aspect of the surroundings than the individual routes: here, the landscape takes centre stage, while the routes focus on their courses and sequence.
Village history and traditions
The former mill pond of the Werntrop mill lay below the village. It was fed by the Bruchbach, which rose below HĂĽlsberg and Auergang, as well as by springs that emerged in the meadows. These watercourses and springs are part of the history of the former mill pond. The St. Agatha fair offers a different perspective: it is a tradition in Werntrop and is celebrated every year.
