Bad Lippspringe: Thermal Baths, Garden Show and Springs
Accommodation in Bad Lippspringe
Bad Lippspringe offers a range of experiences for your stay: saunas and wellness, park and family activities, woodland trails, and natural and local history. If you’re looking for hotels in Bad Lippspringe, it helps to decide which of these experiences you want to shape your trip before you start planning.
Thermal Baths and Garden Show
The sauna and wellness areas at Westfalen Therme cover 6,000 square metres and offer up to 20 infusions using pure essential oils. Family activities include water slides measuring 75 and 125 metres, a pirate land, a toddler area with water games, and diving platforms at heights of 1 and 3 metres. At Salinarium, facilities include a saltwater float bath, a salt sauna and a relaxation area with its own salt works. As access restrictions may change, we recommend checking the current conditions before your visit.
The Bad Lippspringe Garden Show is a year-round destination for an outing, with floral displays and tranquil woodland. The 30-hectare site has ten different playgrounds. Seasonal events include Sparkassen-Waldleuchten in spring, Sand Worlds in summer, the Pumpkin Festival in autumn and numerous after-work concerts during the summer months. Dates for individual events may change; check which activities are scheduled during your stay before you travel.
Spring and Trails Through Woods and Parks
The Lippe spring emerges from a depth of about 8 metres and produces approximately 740 litres of water per second. This makes it one of Germany’s most powerful river springs. The trails also offer a variety of experiences: the 7.5-kilometre KlimaErlebnisRoute in Lippspringer Forest is a circular hiking trail marked with a red “K” plaque. Starting points are the Noaks Pumpe hiking car park or, alternatively, the Prinzenpalais at Arminius Park. Along the way, the route provides information about the climate of the past, different aspects of today’s climate, and the climate of the future and its effects.
Other routes vary in length and theme. The Planet Trail has ten stops: it starts at the central Sun station in Arminius Park and ends there again after about 7 kilometres. The VitalWanderWelt “ZUTRAUEN – Kleine Kurwaldrunde” route is about 4 kilometres long. Shorter still is the 1.5-kilometre “Genussweg – wild & lecker” circular trail through Arminius Park and Jordan Park in the centre of Bad Lippspringe. Its 14 stops introduce edible wild plants. This lets you choose between routes of different lengths and themes without judging them by distance alone.
History and Special Places
Lippspringe Castle is considered the spa town’s oldest landmark and a stone testament to its past. It was probably built by the Paderborn Cathedral Chapter in the early 14th century; its first documented mention dates to 1312. The local history museum covers the history of Bad Lippspringe across five periods: from the geological history of the Lippspringe area and evidence of settlement from the Stone Age to the present day, through the town’s medieval and modern history, to the history of the spa.
At the NABU Senne Nature Information Centre, the “Faszination Senne” exhibition presents the geological formation of the Senne, the history of its settlement and cultivation, and its current uses and future prospects. The Peace Chapel is a place for quiet, prayer, meditation and meeting others. From there, visitors enjoy a lovely view of a dune valley, the Mersmann ponds and a woodland backdrop.
The town’s events include the Park Festival, held every year at Pentecost in Arminius Park, which attracts several thousand visitors to Bad Lippspringe. Check the date and current programme before your trip. Whether you want to focus on thermal baths, outdoor activities or culture, the specific trails, themes and seasonal activities give you a range of options to consider as you plan.
