Buir is a district of Kerpen with a village character. When comparing hotels for a stay in Buir, three questions can help you find your bearings: Is the townscape with its village houses important to you, does St. Michael’s Church interest you, or would you like to include cycling opportunities in the surrounding area? The S-Bahn stop and a bus line provide additional travel options. You can consider destinations elsewhere in the wider Kerpen area separately as an additional focus.

Village Character and Historic Buildings

Buir has a village character. The streets are lined mainly with one- and two-storey village houses. A few buildings dating from the Gründerzeit period have been preserved in the western part of the district. These older buildings add a historic touch to a townscape largely defined by village houses. St. Michael’s Church is a defining feature of the townscape and is located at Kirchenstraße 36, 50170 Kerpen-Buir. There is also a half-timbered house on Kirchenstraße that is a listed building. Village houses, Gründerzeit buildings and half-timbering offer different perspectives on Buir’s built environment.

Getting Here and Finding Your Way

Buir has its own S-Bahn stop and is served by a bus line. You can factor in both modes of transport when choosing where to stay and how to get around. Check the timetables for your travel date before setting off so you can plan around the departure times.

Cycling Around Buir

The City of Kerpen cycling map lists Buir railway station as point 39 on the Kerpen Cycling Adventure Route. This signposted route runs in the wider area around Buir and forms a circular tour of about 50 kilometres through nearly all of Kerpen’s districts. It connects historic sites, buildings, attractions and leisure facilities. The route runs through the countryside between the Erft floodplain and the Villerücken ridge, and between the Berrenrather and Zülpicher Börde regions. You can also explore the circular route in sections. Its approximate total length and the option to choose individual sections offer different ways to plan your tour.

A report from 2025 notes that the Kerpen Local History Association has been holding its traditional bike tour for Open Monument Day for more than 20 years. Among other places, the route connects Buir, Manheim, Horrem, Sindorf, Türnich, Blatzheim, Mödrath and Kerpen. This follows a different route from the Cycling Adventure Route’s circular tour: here, the ride passes through a series of specifically named places and is tied to Open Monument Day.
