Discover hiking and culture in Harscheid
Accommodation in Harscheid
Harscheid can be included in your hiking plans via two circular trails: both run between Schuld and Harscheid, and one also passes through Sierscheid. A cultural and historical landmark is the Catholic St. Donatus Chapel at MittelstraĂźe 4. It is a single-nave church dating from 1754. The combination of hiking trails and architectural history gives you two distinct themes to consider when planning a stay.
Circular Hiking Trail No. 4 in detail
Circular Hiking Trail No. 4, “Schuld-Harscheid-Schuld,” starts in the center of Schuld at the bridge and ends there as well. The loop runs from Schuld through Harscheid and back to Schuld. The 7.6 km hike is rated moderate; it has 229 meters of ascent and 231 meters of descent. The section of the route towards Harscheid climbs gently over 1.4 km. These details give you a concrete basis for considering the route’s length, elevation gain and loss, and described character in advance.
On Locherberg, the route passes meadows and hawthorn hedges. In Eichholz, it runs alongside stands of oak and beech. A forest path about 250 m long leads from the farm track to MartinshĂĽtte. From there, you can see across Schuld and its surroundings; weather and vegetation may affect visibility. A detour of about 150 m from Circular Hiking Trail No. 4 leads to a small observation tower with views of Am Bahnhof, Branderholz and Bubenley. Before visiting, check the detour and viewpoint against current trail conditions.
An information board about the GEOLOGIEPFAD Schuld (Schuld Geology Trail) stands on Circular Hiking Trail No. 4; the geology trail runs parallel to part of it. The parallel section therefore covers only part of the hike. Circular Hiking Trail No. 3 offers a different focus: its loop runs from Schuld via Sierscheid and Harscheid back to Schuld, over the local hills. In comparison, No. 3 is distinguished by its route via Sierscheid and the hills; No. 4 can be assessed, among other things, by its length, elevation gain and loss, and the section near MartinshĂĽtte.

Culture and trails in the wider Ahrweiler destination
The wider Ahrweiler destination offers additional cultural attractions. In Ahrweiler, the House of the Marksmen displays art-historical treasures from the past three centuries, including uniforms, pictorial documentation and historic marksmen’s rifles. The three Ahrweiler marksmen’s societies have operated a museum since 2002; visits are available on request. At the Roman Villa on Silberberg in Ahrweiler, visitors can view a model of the Roman estate and an audiovisual presentation.
The hiking trails in the district of Ahrweiler also extend across a wider region. AhrSteig is one of the district’s certified hiking trails and connects the source of the Ahr in Blankenheim with its mouth in Sinzig in seven stages; it runs through the wider Ahr region. The Rheinburgenweg and Eifelleiter also lie in the district of Ahrweiler. The Red Wine Hiking Trail and numerous marked local trails add to the network. This lets you distinguish the circular trails linking Schuld and Harscheid from the wider regional hiking routes.
