Iggelbach combines specific hiking options with an old village center that is protected as a historic monument zone. For planning a stay, the different circular trails, several viewpoints and local history provide clear starting points. You can get a sense of the village based on your preferred trail length and the themes you want to shape your stay.

Hiking: Circular Trails and Routes

Circular Hiking Trail 17 is a 9.0-kilometer loop from Iggelbach via Bierenberg and Melchiorfelsen and back to Iggelbach. At 9.0 kilometers, it is shorter than Circular Hiking Trail 16 in its 11.4-kilometer version. This trail starts in Elmstein, passes through Bloskülb, Iggelbach and Schafhof, and returns to Elmstein. A loop via Appenthal extends Trail 16 to 15.1 kilometers.

While these two routes are described as circular hikes, the Kuckucksbähnel Trail continues to Iggelbach after Stammingerbrunnen. The Palatinate Hut Trail also continues from Elmstein to Iggelbach. Circular Trails 19 and 20 pass by the Mitteleiche hiking parking area, which is open year-round. Before setting out on the Kuckucksbähnel Trail, check the seasonal trail conditions.

Viewpoints and Rest Stops

The Kurzeneckkopf viewpoint is on the Kuckucksbähnel Trail and offers views across the Palatinate Forest and of Iggelbach. Parking for the viewpoint is available on Am Tanzbaum street. It is about 350 meters from the parking area. Kieferekäppel is another named viewpoint, located on Kurzeneck above Iggelbach.

Southwest of Iggelbach, you can climb the Schindhübel Tower, from where the view stretches over the treetops. The viewpoints offer different views: from Kurzeneckkopf, you can see the Palatinate Forest and Iggelbach; from Schindhübel Tower, the treetops.

There are tables, benches and a large pavilion close to the Wedding Trees, providing a place to rest. The pavilion offers views of Iggelbach. As the facilities may change, it is advisable to check their current status before your visit. The picnic area on Eschkopfstraße is at the edge of the village, in the direction of Johanniskreuz, on K17.

Village Center and Local History

The old village center of Iggelbach has the status of a historic monument zone. The protected zone extends from the Iggelbach valley to the saddle between Bloskülb and Kurzeneck. Bloskülb is 570 meters high and Kurzeneck is 451 meters high. These two named heights thus mark the endpoints of the described extent of the village center.

Iggelbach has had a Protestant church since 1933. The bell and clock tower, dating from 1899, still stands on Schlossgasse, but is no longer in use. The bell tower is also closely connected with forestry work. Another form of remembrance is the memorial to Iggelbach residents who fell in the First World War. Its unusual design, featuring symbolic graves, is noteworthy.

Near Iggelbach, on the northwest slope of Bragberg and close to the road between Iggelbach and Eschkopf, are the remains of a former Electoral Palatinate hunting lodge. The lodge had been in existence since at least 1749. The Kerwe is considered an important event in Iggelbach; visitors are welcome. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the event dates separately.
