Lauschied is situated on elevated ground between the Nahe and Glan rivers in the Glan-Nahe Triangle. Two specific themes come together here when choosing a destination: hiking views from the heights toward the Hunsrück and traces of history from Roman times to written records of the village in the Middle Ages. This gives you a way to place Lauschied in context through its landscape and history before comparing hotels for your stay.

Hiking from the heights

Hikes from the heights around Lauschied offer views as far as the Hunsrück. During a hike organized in 2023, a circular route of about 15 kilometers led from the community hall past water reservoirs and wind turbines, through Jeckenbach, and back to Lauschied. The view of the Hunsrück describes the panorama from the heights; the 2023 hike, by contrast, specifies the route length, starting point, and stops. Check the route in advance.

Local history across several periods

Lauschied originated in the early 7th century as a new settlement in a cleared area. Around 1200, the village was first mentioned in writing under the historical name Villam Lubescheid iuxa Mettersheim. These details refer to different historical aspects: the early 7th-century date concerns the settlement’s origins, while the mention around 1200 concerns the written record and the name used at the time. Evidence of a Roman villa has also been recorded in the areas of In Frohnhausen and An den Pfühlen.

Another historical connection concerns Disibodenberg Monastery: it held hunting rights in the area and, in return, granted the landowners in Lauschied the right to accommodation during hunts.

Johannes Bückler, known as Schinderhannes, stayed in Lauschied in 1797 and 1798. Johannes Leyendecker, a shoemaker from Lauschied, is considered the intellectual instigator of many crimes associated with Schinderhannes. Bückler’s stay and the role attributed to Leyendecker are distinct historical connections: one is dated, while the other describes the role of a Lauschied resident.

Church and protected monument status

The Evangelical Church of Lauschied was built in 1731 and is protected as a cultural monument. The building was also used jointly by the Catholic and Lutheran congregations. The church thus combines a specific year of construction and monument protection with use by two denominations.

St. Georgshütte: Facilities and directions
