Waldlaubersheim can be explored through several notable sites and traces of its history. A local sightseeing walk highlights the old school, the village oak and the historic castle courtyard, as well as the stone cross, St. Martin’s Church and the Stumm organ. Other points of interest include the former blacksmith’s workshop, the former synagogue, the Domberg dome, the Jewish cemetery and the Unterzunft Bridge. This mix of buildings, religious landmarks and places of remembrance offers different ways to explore the village, rather than focusing on a single landmark.

Jewish Heritage in Waldlaubersheim

The Jewish cemetery is located on Horetberg, about 1.5 kilometres from the centre of Waldlaubersheim. It was established around 1800. Stones from 21 individual graves and two double graves have been preserved; inscriptions are visible on more than half of them. The graves and their inscriptions make this a special place of remembrance. Visitors should treat the cemetery with respect.

The former synagogue is a simple rubble-stone building with a pitched roof and round-arched windows, near St. Martin’s Church. A 2006 memorial plaque and local cultural events commemorate Waldlaubersheim’s Jewish heritage; the events programme may vary. The cemetery and synagogue offer different points of focus: at the cemetery, the gravestones and their partly visible inscriptions take centre stage; at the synagogue, it is the former building, the memorial plaque and the cultural events.

Distinct Cultural Attractions in Bad Kreuznach

The wider destination of Bad Kreuznach also has its own historical highlights. The bridge houses in Bad Kreuznach were built from 1480 onwards due to a lack of space. They are half-timbered buildings on the piers of the old Nahe Bridge, which was built around 1300. The two dates refer to different structures: the bridge is older, and the bridge houses were added later.

The museums of the city of Bad Kreuznach are housed in the listed former Bangert manor house, set in a historic park. They have been located there since 1985/86. The organ ART Museum in Windesheim is a musical instrument museum unique of its kind in Germany. Unlike the buildings and museums, the Salinental between Bad Kreuznach and Bad MĂĽnster is a cultural landscape steeped in history.

The Felseneremitage is located in Bretzenheim, a place of worship carved entirely into the rock. It probably dates back to prehistoric times and was converted to Christian use in the early Christian period. It can be viewed from the outside all year round without a guide; access to the rock dwelling is currently not possible due to a rockfall.
