Hasborn offers several distinct points of interest for a trip: trails, natural sites, church architecture and traces of local history. Eichenhain is in the centre, while Sauerbrunnen and Schanzley offer further scenic highlights. St. Rochus Chapel also connects local history with today’s cultural offerings. If you’re looking for a hotel in Hasborn, these themes can help you decide what the destination has to offer based on the focus of your trip.

Trails and Getting There

The 2-Bäche-Pfad and Devonroute trails pass partly through Hasborn. The village is also close to the Pfarrsteig Greimerath. This trail, around 17 kilometres long, connects Greimerath, Willwerscheid and Hasborn. The surrounding area also offers long hikes through the Vulkaneifel, with views of the region’s unspoilt landscape. Hasborn can be reached via the A1 and the regional road between Trier and Koblenz.

Natural Sites in Hasborn

Hasborn’s Eichenhain is in the village centre, in a park-like setting among houses, a church, a school and sports facilities. It covers 7,000 square metres, and some of its trees are up to 350 years old. The grove provides a habitat for bats, squirrels and stag beetles. It is considered Hasborn’s last wood pasture and oldest natural monument. Its central location sets it apart from Schanzley, a striking rock above the valley in a wooded setting.

Hasborner Sauerbrunnen, an iron-rich spring, lies between Hasborn and Oberscheidweiler. Its sour taste comes from naturally occurring carbon dioxide of volcanic origin.

Architecture and Local History

Hasborn’s church has an octagonal floor plan, complemented by a decagonal altar area. An octagon has eight sides and a decagon has ten, so the church combines two geometric shapes. The church has three bells, cast by the Eifel bronze bell foundry Johannes Mark in Brockscheid. The modern St. Rochus Church was built in Eichenhain in 1968 and has a distinctive tent-shaped roof.

St. Rochus Chapel was built in 1775, replacing an earlier chapel in Hasborn. It serves as a venue for art and culture, as well as a place for exhibitions and concerts. As the programme may change, check the dates for your travel period if you’re interested in attending an event.

The historic livestock watering trough is beside the former Trier–Koblenz Roman road. The sunken lane Holg still recalls the route of the road through Hasborn.

In the wider Bernkastel-Wittlich destination

In Bernkastel-Wittlich, the volcanic Eifel, the romantic Moselle Valley and the HunsrĂĽck, rich in forests and meadows, meet. The 816-metre-high Erbeskopf is a great place for hiking and offers a range of winter sports. At Erbeskopf, the National Park Gate provides information about nature and the environment; its interactive multimedia exhibition focuses on forests and wetlands.
