Landscheid combines archaeological remains, local culture and routes through river valleys. This gives you a range of options for planning your trip: you can focus on historic sites, a hike or bookable activities involving ponies.

Traces of Celtic, Roman and Local History

The Burscheid Wall lies within the Landscheid area and is a Celtic ring wall. It includes parts of a Celtic hillfort as well as remains of a settlement from Roman times. Celtic and Roman remains therefore meet in the archaeological history of the area, while the ring wall itself provides a distinctive landmark.

In the center of Landscheid, the guild tree displays the symbols of local merchants and craftspeople. The Roman tomb is a sandstone, tomb-like archaeological object that probably dates from around 200 AD. These represent two different aspects: the guild tree, with its symbols of local trade, and an archaeological remnant from Roman times.

The Holy Cross Chapel in Burg also offers a clearly dated glimpse into the history of its construction: it replaced an older chapel in 1908 and was consecrated in 1909.

Peter Zirbes House and Other Experiences

Peter Zirbes House occupies the former home of Eifel poet Peter Zirbes. Paintings, drawings, manuscripts, photographs and books from his estate are displayed there. The original furnishings that have been preserved also document the living conditions of merchants from Niederkail and Landscheid. The house thus combines literary artifacts with insights into the domestic culture of the time.

Visits to Peter Zirbes House are arranged by appointment, so please coordinate your visit in advance. A historic merchant’s wagon from 1900 offers another glimpse into the lives of local merchants: visitors can climb inside and imagine how traders lived in the past. Please check before your visit whether this is possible.

Ponyhofabenteuer in Landscheid-Burg offers pony groups and bookable activities. These include watching, grooming and leading ponies; pottery painting is also available. Alongside its historical themes, the offering provides a hands-on pony activity and a creative pursuit.

Hiking Between the Lieser and Salm

The local hiking loop “Mills on the Lieser and Salm” connects the Lieser and Salm valleys via Himmerod. Along the way, the route alternates between riverside paths, forest sections, natural-surface trails, and paths through meadows and fields; there are also viewpoints. This information helps you understand the character of the landscape without reducing the route to just one type of trail.

A route starting from Himmerod follows the Salm through green countryside and passes historic mills. The Eifelsteig, by contrast, only briefly touches Landscheid on Stage 13, at the edge of town. This gives you a clear difference to consider when choosing a route: the loop connects the valleys, while the Eifelsteig has only a short stretch at the edge of town here.

For geographical orientation, Landscheid is located between Trier, Wittlich and Bitburg. Its history, hiking trails and various activities offer different ways to shape your stay around the topics that interest you most.
