Two stages of the Moselsteig end in Ürzig. There is also the Rotschwänzchen Trail, along with the Ürzig Herb Garden and the adjacent Rose Garden. If you are planning a stay, you can compare the routes by length, difficulty and trail conditions.

Compare Moselsteig stages

One Moselsteig stage runs from Bernkastel-Kues to Ürzig and is 17.5 kilometres long. The second runs from Ürzig to Traben-Trarbach and covers 15 kilometres. Both stages are rated moderate. This gives you two different route lengths to help you plan: the stage to Traben-Trarbach is shorter, while the one from Bernkastel-Kues to Ürzig covers more kilometres. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

The Rotschwänzchen Trail: exploring Ürzig

The Rotschwänzchen Trail starts at the Mosel promenade and brings together a variety of sights and experiences: old half-timbered houses, a woodland play area, picnic spots and views of the Mosel, as well as vineyards, a sound installation and a stone structure area. The Rose Garden and Herb Garden are also part of the route. This means the trail focuses on both local scenery and garden and landscape themes.

The route is estimated to take around 1.5 to 2.5 hours. It is not accessible, and sturdy footwear is required. Bear these limitations in mind when planning, and check locally for current conditions and accessibility.

Herb Garden and Rose Garden

The Ürzig Herb Garden and the adjacent Rose Garden are located on steep vineyard slopes. Paths, steps, dry-stone walls and small terraces shape the grounds. The gardens are home to Mediterranean perennials, herbs and native shrubs, as well as more than 20 varieties of wild and cultivated roses. Both gardens are also connected to a themed network of trails.

The gardens therefore differ in focus from the longer Moselsteig stages: here, the emphasis is on planting and the design of the slopes. If you are planning your stay around specific hiking and garden themes, these differences can help you choose what to do.
