Ürzig combines distinctive cultural landmarks, paths through vineyards and a Riesling stop. If you’re looking for a hotel in Ürzig, it’s worth first considering what you want to focus on during your stay: local history, hiking or wine culture. The town offers different ways to explore these interests—from the sundial in the town center to themed trails and regional dishes.

Sundial and Historic Sites

The Ürzig sundial is considered the town’s landmark. It is a traditional sundial with a Roman numeral dial and is thought to be the oldest sundial on the Moselle.

The town center around the Rathausplatz includes medieval houses. The Himmeroder Hof in Ürzig was once the manor house of Himmerod Abbey. The town’s historical points of interest thus include a landmark, medieval houses and the former function of the manor as a country estate.

Hiking Trails Through Vineyards and Gardens

The (W)Ürziger Bergpfad trail passes through the “Ürziger Würzgarten” vineyard and the themed garden of the same name. The Ürziger Geologie-, Gewürz- & Rosengarten themed trail offers a different botanical focus: 160 plant species and 20 varieties of roses, as well as numerous spices and herbs, grow on a steep slope. The trails therefore have distinct themes: the Bergpfad connects the vineyard with the themed garden, while plants, roses, spices and herbs grow on the steep slope along the other themed trail.

The “Rotschwänzchen Route” family hiking trail in Ürzig is a circular route about 5 kilometers long, with numerous stops for playing and activities. It passes through the old town center; woodland paths, sweeping views of the Moselle and steep vineyards are also part of the route. Its circular layout and approximate length offer a different point of reference from the vineyard and themed garden combination on the (W)Ürziger Bergpfad.

Cycling Routes in the Area

Cycling routes are also part of the area around Ürzig, with trails for trekking bikes, road bikes, mountain bikes and e-bikes. These include the 310-kilometer Moselle Cycle Route, which follows the German course of the Moselle from Thionville in France to the Deutsches Eck in Koblenz.

Riesling and Regional Dishes

The Riesling stop with Moselle-style tapas offers Riesling, Riesling grape juice and water. It also includes small regional treats from the winemaker’s kitchen, prepared with seasonal and local ingredients. Drinks and small dishes together provide a culinary taste of the region.

For more than 20 years, the “Harley & Wein Ürzig” wine festival has brought Moselle wine and Harley-Davidson together. The stop and the festival offer different experiences: the Riesling stop serves drinks and small regional dishes, while the wine festival celebrates the connection between Moselle wine and Harley-Davidson.

The Wider Bernkastel-Wittlich Destination

The wider Bernkastel-Wittlich destination brings together the volcanic Eifel, the romantic Moselle Valley and the Hunsrück, with its extensive forests and meadows. The 816-meter-high Erbeskopf is a popular hiking destination and offers a range of winter sports.
