When staying in Münchweiler an der Alsenz, walking and cycling tours take center stage. Hohlstein Hut is located on Hohlstein, the village’s local hill, and offers views across the Alsenz Valley and the Kaiserstraße Depression. The Alsenz Valley Cycle Route begins at the railway station; numerous cycling and hiking trails also invite you to explore the landscape. These specific local features can help you plan your day around a hike, a cycling tour, or a combination of both.

Hohlstein Hut: Walking Route and Opening Days

Hohlstein Hut can only be reached on foot. The roughly 30-minute walk from the village is well signposted and follows the PWV hiking trail marked with a “white and blue bar,” which passes directly by the hut. Located on Hohlstein, Münchweiler’s local hill, the hut offers views across the Alsenz Valley and the Kaiserstraße Depression. The route and the views make this a clearly defined hike from the village to a viewpoint.

The hut is open from April to the end of July, as well as in September and October, on Sundays and public holidays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. At Easter and Pentecost, it is open only on Mondays; it is closed on Good Friday and Corpus Christi. Check the operator’s calendar before setting out, and plan around these seasonal hours and exceptions.

The Cycle Route and the River Alsenz as Local Landmarks

From Münchweiler railway station, the Alsenz Valley Cycle Route follows the right bank of the Alsenz via Langmeil and Alsenbrück to Winnweiler. Its starting point, riverside location, and direction make this a clearly defined cycling tour. Münchweiler an der Alsenz also has numerous cycling and hiking trails that open up the landscape. This allows you to distinguish a route with a named course from the wider selection of local trails. The Kneipp facility at the “Klostermühle” Hotel is also right by the Alsenz.
