Chapel and local history
The historic chapel dates from 1816 and was partially redesigned in 1980. It bears witness to the village’s religious tradition. Ammeldingen may be Germany’s smallest place with its own house of worship. Ammeldingen was first documented in 767. In the 12th century, the settlement was called Oingelingen; in 1570, it was known as Ameldingen. Until the French Revolution, Ammeldingen belonged to the County of Vianden. An agricultural building at house number 5 dates from the 17th century. The dates associated with the chapel refer to different stages: 1816 is the year it was built, and 1980 the year it was partially redesigned.
