Historic Buildings and Local History

The Rhineland-Palatinate Register of Monuments (as of June 24, 2024) describes the Catholic branch church of St. Valentin as a neo-Baroque hall church built in 1930/31; the stained-glass windows are by H. Maier. The protected residential section of the Quereinhaus at Hauptstraße 17 dates from 1789 and is considered characteristic of the village. At Kapellenstraße 16, a listed residential house dates from the first half to the middle of the 18th century; it was extended in the second half of the 19th century. The property also includes a single-story bakehouse with a forge dating from 1875.

The village's early history is also linked to a specific year: according to Jucken's local history, the place is recorded as a village near Olmscheid in 1640. This information is attributed to records kept by the ecclesiastical tithe lords of Vianden.

Annual Customs

For the local May festival, the maypole is cut, decorated, and erected; people then sing beneath it. On Epiphany, also known as Three Kings' Day, children go from house to house as Star Singers and mark doors with C+M+B. After Carnival, generations of children and parents have gathered to symbolically burn winter. The customs described differ both in occasion and in form: from the communal maypole ritual to Star Singing and the burning of winter.
