When planning a stay in Kleinlangenfeld, you can explore local history, protected monuments and facilities with different purposes. St. Agatha and St. Lucia Chapel represents architectural history and sacred art; Langer Stein and the Hochmoor auf der Holscheid represent different categories of protected sites. Area figures from 2019 put these individual topics in a broader context.

The chapel: architectural history and sacred art

St. Agatha and St. Lucia Chapel was originally built in 1767. The original building was destroyed in an air raid on Ash Wednesday 1945; the replacement chapel was consecrated in 1953. Inside are four Baroque statues of saints, which are part of the protected cultural heritage. A Baroque wayside shrine stands in front of the chapel’s east side and is also part of the protected cultural heritage. The architectural history, statues and wayside shrine complement one another as different aspects of the site.

Langer Stein and Hochmoor

Langer Stein, a protected cultural monument, is located in the Kleinlangenfeld forest. The basalt stone is shaped like an obelisk, with a cross carved at the top of each of its four sides. Its shape, material and four crosses make the monument easy to describe. Hochmoor auf der Holscheid, a registered natural monument, lies southeast of Kleinlangenfeld. The different protection categories offer a clear comparison: a single cultural monument in the forest on the one hand, and a natural monument southeast of the village on the other.

Areas and facilities in the village

Kleinlangenfeld covers 782 hectares. As of December 31, 2019, 45.5 percent was agricultural land and around 45.8 percent was forest. The two shares are very close; in these statistics, the forest share was slightly higher. The figures refer to the entire municipal area and offer a different scale of reference from looking at individual monuments.

The facilities in the village also serve different purposes. Kleinlangenfeld has a bus and hiking house; the community hall has a wheelchair-accessible terrace. There is also a small sports and play area and an inclusive playground for young children. The facilities vary in purpose: from a house for bus travel and hiking to the terrace and the play and activity areas. This gives you several specific points of reference for planning your stay, without implying anything about the facilities at a hotel.
