Preischeid: Discover hiking and history
Accommodation in Preischeid
Preischeid combines hiking with a local history that is easy to follow. Südeifel Nature Park Hiking Trail No. 06 – Dasburg-Preischeid circles the hill of Preischeid and leads through wooded valleys. St. Peter’s Church offers a second focus, with its architectural history and churchyard cross. When planning your visit, it is worth considering both the route of the hike and the historical details of the town.
Hiking Trail and Route Highlights
The trail is 15.5 km long and runs through the valleys of the Our, Irsen and MĂĽhlbach rivers. Its first section follows the bunker hiking trail, which recalls the Westwall fortifications. These fortifications are also considered a habitat and refuge for rare animals. The route thus combines a hike through wooded landscapes with historical references and an interpretation of the landscape as a habitat.
The hike begins and ends at the car park in the centre of Dasburg. Highlights along the route include the ruins of Dasburg Castle, which offer views of the Our Valley. Dasburg is also a historic crafts town along the route. The Machtemes Mill, which is open to visitors, is another highlight of the hike.
St. Peter’s Church and Its Architectural History
The Catholic parish church of St. Peter was built in 1784. In 1840, the church received a new three-storey tower with a domed roof and lantern. The churchyard also contains a niche or column cross dating from around 1620 to 1630. The chronology brings different periods to life: the cross is considerably older than the church building, and the tower was added later.

Landscape and Activities in the Bitburger Land
The Bitburger Land is a distinct regional area that includes the Kyllburg Forest Eifel, the Bitburger Gutland and part of the Islek. High plateaus, deeply incised river valleys and open woodlands shape the landscape. The region offers hiking trails in the NaturWanderPark delux and cycling routes along river valleys. Small distilleries in the surrounding area offer insights into schnapps production. Roman remains can be found at Villa Otrang near FlieĂźem and along the archaeological circular trail in Bitburg.
