Acht lies in the valley of the Achterbach; the stream is also the namesake of the village. The landscape and the village name are therefore directly connected. This connection provides a clear starting point for getting your bearings: the valley forms the scenic setting, while St. Hubertus Chapel serves as a central landmark in the village. Acht can thus be explored through two very local themes—the stream and the village’s history.

St. Hubertus Chapel and Village History

St. Hubertus Chapel stands in the center of Acht, at the corner of Hauptstraße and Am Kirchweg. The restored chapel is part of the village center. The present chapel building dates from 1826. St. Hubertus is the local patron saint and the principal saint of the small village chapel. The year it was built, its location and its patron saint offer different ways to place the chapel in the village’s history.

Figures have been preserved, including a depiction of Saint Hubertus as a bishop. Two bells from the former chapel have also been preserved. The figures and bells add further facets of local religious history to the building’s history. Acht’s cultural heritage also includes a wayside cross dating from 1631. It provides a historical reference point earlier than the present chapel building of 1826.

Hiking and Group Stays

The Wanderath Trail includes the Welschenbach–Acht section. This identifies a specific stretch of trail that you can take into account when planning a hiking stay. Check trail conditions before setting out. If your main interest is hiking, you can use this section as a guide; if you are interested in local historical details, the chapel and wayside cross offer a different thematic perspective. You can include either or both of these focuses in your travel plans.

HausAcht is available as a group house for hiking groups. It can accommodate up to 35 guests and has 10 parking spaces for cars, including space for a coach. The capacity and parking options help answer two specific planning questions: How many guests need accommodation, and how will the group travel? Confirm availability before booking.

Culture in the wider Mayen-Koblenz destination

The wider Mayen-Koblenz destination offers further historical attractions. Genovevaburg Castle in Mayen was built in 1280 by Heinrich von Finstingen, Archbishop of Trier. Sayn Abbey was founded around 1200; its abbey church was consecrated in 1202. Thus, the regional context brings together a castle with a specific construction date and a monastic foundation with its own consecration year, alongside Acht’s village history. The chapel of 1826 and the wayside cross of 1631 are specific historical reference points in Acht; Genovevaburg Castle and the abbey broaden the perspective to the wider destination. If you take architectural history into account when choosing your destination, you can compare these local and regional themes separately.
