Brodenbach: Hiking, Kirmes and Moselle Views
Accommodation in Brodenbach
Brodenbach offers several specific starting points for planning your trip: hiking trails with different connections to the town, an annual Kirmes, a former church now used as a community hall, and viewpoints in the surrounding area. The trails and activities described give you an idea of which aspects of the town might interest you most.
Hiking Trails and Excursions from Brodenbach
The Traumpfad Bergschluchtenpfad Ehrenburg starts in Brodenbach and initially leads into the Brodenbach Valley. The Donnerloch circular route also starts in town, but runs directly through the Brodenbach Valley. The routes therefore already differ in their described courses: the Traumpfad focuses on the first stretch into the valley, while the valley shapes the course of the circular route. The Ehrbachklamm route, in turn, ends in Brodenbach on the Moselle Promenade. The starting point, first stretch and destination give you different reference points when choosing a trail.
The seasonal bus service is also relevant for getting here and continuing your journey. RegioRadler bus route 630 runs daily from Emmelshausen to Treis-Karden from April 1 to October 31, stopping in Brodenbach and Burgen along the way. Combined with boat and train services, the route makes numerous day trips possible for cyclists and hikers. Before travelling, check the seasonal operating days and the latest details of the transport connections.
Old Church, Kirmes and Wine Tastings
The “Alte Kirche” community hall is the restored former Catholic parish church of St. John of Nepomuk. The church was built in 1732. After it was deconsecrated, it was converted into an event space for the municipality of Brodenbach in 1994. The hall’s present-day name thus recalls the building’s former use; its construction and later conversion mark two distinct periods in its history.
The Brodenbach Kirmes is celebrated annually in mid-May and is considered probably the municipality’s oldest village festival. It commemorates the patron saint of the old church, St. John of Nepomuk. The festivities include a morning social gathering with music and food, activities for children, and an afternoon coffee-and-cake buffet with homemade cakes. Individual events may vary; if you want to plan your trip around the festival, check the date and programme for that year.
Another local option is Weingut Reinhold Bernardy, where wine tastings for up to 30 people are offered in the wine tavern. If you are planning a tasting, check the current booking arrangements in advance.
A Nature-Based Playground and Views Nearby
The “Naturnaher Spielplatz Salzwiese” is described as an adventure space for children of all ages, fully integrated into the landscape. Its features include a stream, a climbing hill and a meadow area for running around and ball games. Natural play materials such as sand, water, stones, wood and earth are also provided. These features set the playground apart from the historical and landscape-related themes of the other excursion destinations.
Ehrenburg, a ruin and spur castle above the town, lies near Brodenbach. It has a varied history and stands on a rocky spur overlooking the Ehrbach Valley. The Ehrbach Valley is a side valley of the Moselle. The castle thus combines a historical connection with the valley’s landscape, without this implying anything about current access.
Hubertushöhe, a viewpoint with a pavilion on county road 72, is also nearby. The road connects Brodenbach and Buchholz. From Hubertushöhe, the view extends over the rooftops of Brodenbach to Löf on the opposite bank of the Moselle. A small car park with space for about two cars is also useful for finding your way around.
