Hatzenport: Trails, Wine and Culture
Accommodation in Hatzenport
If you’re looking for a hotel in Hatzenport, you can plan your stay around the hiking routes, the Rabenlay viewpoint, and local cultural and wine-related themes. Each offers a different focus: on the trails, the route and starting point take center stage; Rabenlay, the herb garden, theater tradition, and wine tastings offer other themes to consider when planning your trip.
Trails through Hatzenport and how they differ
The WeinWetterWeg is part of the Mosel.Erlebnis.Route. It follows a large loop through Hatzenport, via Rabenlay to Löf, and onward southeast toward Bischofstein Castle and Lasserg. In Hatzenport, a section of the Moselsteig also runs together with the Traumpfad and the WeinWetterWeg. These are different scales: the loop describes the route of the WeinWetterWeg through several places; the shared route of the Moselsteig, Traumpfad, and WeinWetterWeg applies to a section in Hatzenport.
The Traumpfad Hatzenporter Laysteig is a circular route that starts at Hatzenport railway station. By comparison, the WeinWetterWeg follows a large loop through several named places; for the Moselsteig, the specific connection to Hatzenport is the section it shares with the other two trails. This makes it possible to consider a circular route, a loop, and a shared trail section as different aspects of tour planning.
Landscape and plants
From the Rabenlay viewpoint, you can see Hatzenport, the steep vineyard slopes, and the Moselle Valley. Facilities include a shelter, a barbecue area, and reclining benches. Check local conditions before your visit. At Rabenlay, the route of the WeinWetterWeg meets the viewpoint and its views of the landscape.
The herb garden near the church in Hatzenport offers a different natural highlight. Medicinal herbs, Mediterranean culinary plants, flowering shrubs, historic roses, and wild roses grow there. It also features species found growing wild in the vineyards: dittany, blue lettuce, and grass lily. The selection combines garden plants with species from the vineyards, giving the garden its own focus alongside the hiking routes.
Culture, theater, and wine
Sommersonnenwende Hatzenport is a cultural series organized by the Hatzenport Tourism and Heritage Association. It takes place every year in June under the motto “Art & Culture, Cuisine & Cellar.” The motto brings together cultural and culinary themes. If you’re planning your stay around it, check the dates for the relevant year’s event.
Theater is another part of Hatzenport’s cultural life. Theater was already being performed in Hatzenport around 1899/1900; today, the theater group is working to continue the tradition. The timeline thus stretches from performances around 1899/1900 to the group’s present-day efforts to preserve the tradition.
Hatzenport winemakers offer wine tastings. Contact the winemakers directly to arrange current offers. Together with the motto of Sommersonnenwende, this offers another culinary theme to consider when planning your stay.
