Lind is a municipality in the district of Mayen-Koblenz in Rhineland-Palatinate. The village lies 470 metres above sea level, near the Volcanic Eifel and the Ahrweiler district, and can be visited year-round.

Local history at St. Joseph’s Chapel

Centrally located St. Joseph’s Chapel was built in 1858 on the ruins of an older chapel. The year therefore dates the present-day chapel; its predecessor dates back further. This makes it possible to distinguish a specific construction date from an older religious history at the same site.

In the wider destination of Mayen-Koblenz

The wider destination of Mayen-Koblenz offers further distinct cultural highlights. Genoveva Castle was built in 1280 by Heinrich von Finstingen, Archbishop of Trier, and is one of Mayen’s landmarks. Sayn Ironworks offers a different focus: it is an anchor point on the European Route of Industrial Heritage and the only monument in Rhineland-Palatinate to receive this distinction. Following restoration, modern exhibitions and multimedia presentations invite visitors to explore; Sayn Ironworks also offers guided tours and creative workshops.

Sayn Abbey was founded around 1200, and its abbey church was consecrated in 1202. The abbey’s exterior paintings, dating from around 1255, are considered the best-preserved examples from the High Middle Ages in Germany. Sayn Palace Park offers another distinct cultural and historical highlight: Prince Ludwig Adolf Friedrich zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn had it laid out by Carl Friedrich Thelemann between 1840 and 1850 in the style of an English landscape garden. The park features a palace pond with a fountain, winding paths, numerous benches and secluded, quiet spots.

Another regional activity is the 33-kilometre Vulkanpark Cycle Route, which runs from Mayen via Mendig, Kretz and Plaidt to Andernach. It connects numerous attractions in the Volcano Park and is considered a relaxed, family-friendly route.
