The E3, “Views of the Wied Valley,” is 6.5 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of around 454 metres. It starts at the car park by the Ehlscheid spa park. Compared with the E1, this route is longer and has a significantly greater elevation gain. This lets you compare two circular trails of different lengths using their distance and elevation figures.

The E4 circular hiking trail, “On Both Sides of the Laubach,” covers 3.9 kilometres and has an elevation gain of around 140 metres; almost the entire loop runs through the forest. It is shorter and has less elevation gain than the E1. On the E2, the terrain shapes the hike: the first half follows a longer, partly steep descent; from the “Almblick,” the trail climbs steadily and is also steep in places. Ankle-high hiking boots are recommended for the E2. When planning this loop, take both sections of the trail and the recommended boot height into account.

Guided hikes are offered from Ehlscheid on Saturdays for interested participants and last around two to three hours. On the Klosterweg, the Kneipp facility in Ehlscheid offers a refreshing first stop after the strenuous climb.

Spa Park and Themed Trails

The spa park has a large Kneipp foot bath. The barefoot trail runs through the spa park as a sensory course and includes nine large sections with different surfaces, including pebbles, shell sand and coconut mats. The tree trail in the spa park has 13 signs describing the individual trees. The Ehlscheid Explorer Trail, “With Helos and Heloni in the Local Forest,” is an approximately 800-metre circular route with numerous stations where visitors can take part, marvel and enjoy themselves. Its information boards share interesting facts about plants and animals; the trail is a popular destination for kindergarten and school trips. The focus differs: one trail highlights individual trees, while the other offers information about plants and animals along a circular route with interactive stations.
