Discover Großmaischeid
Accommodation in Großmaischeid
Großmaischeid has a variety of local highlights: St. Boniface and the old water tower are among its sights, while the Dierdorfer Way adds a hiking route to the local attractions. The hill behind Großmaischeid also offers distant views. When planning, you can consider architectural history, the trail and the landscape as separate interests.
Church and Water Tower
St. Boniface Church was first mentioned around 1555. Its new construction was built alongside an old Romanesque tower, which is believed to date from the 13th century. This brings together different historical points of reference: the church’s first mention and the presumed date of one of its architectural features. The old water tower is also one of Großmaischeid’s sights, expanding the local attractions beyond church architecture.
The Dierdorfer Way and the View
After a short, steep climb, the Dierdorfer Way leads out of the forest into the local municipality of Großmaischeid. Continuing straight ahead, it joins the historic footpath to Isenburg. If you plan to take this route, check the route planner before setting out for any temporary route changes.
The hill behind Großmaischeid offers distant views towards the Rhine Valley, Kleinmaischeid and Dernbacher Kopf. This high point adds a landscape perspective to the local sights. When planning, you can therefore choose between different interests: architectural history in the town, a route with a short, steep climb, or views from the hill.
