Several hiking trails include Hochscheid in different ways: W2 runs through the Hochscheider Seifen, the B1 circular trail crosses the heights, and the Wäller Tour Bärenkopp also passes the Seifen. The Große Krippenweg in the Wiedtal also crosses the heights of Hochscheid.

W2: Distance and viewpoint

The W2 Waldbreitbach hike runs through the Hochscheider Seifen. It is moderately difficult, 15.5 kilometers long and takes about 4.9 hours. Together, the difficulty level, distance and approximate walking time provide a concrete framework for planning your hiking day. The duration is an estimate; the tour provider may revise the route details.

On the W2, the trail descends through the Hochscheider Seifen. A branch approximately 250 meters long leads to the “Weißes Kreuz” viewpoint. If you plan this detour, include it as a separate section in your route planning. Trail conditions and signage may change, so check the current route before your hike.

B1: Circular hike across the heights and through stream valleys

The B1 circular trail crosses the heights of Hochscheid and passes through the stream valleys of Fockenbach and Dasbach. The tour also features sweeping views. This makes the B1 different from the W2: it focuses on the circular route, the heights and the two named stream valleys, whereas the W2 has a specified distance and approximate duration.

When choosing a trail, these different features may be more useful than simply comparing distances. If you are looking for a loop with stretches across the heights and through valleys, the B1 offers exactly this combination. Trail and stream conditions may vary by season.

Wäller Tour Bärenkopp and the Hochscheider Seifen

The Wäller Tour Bärenkopp is certified by the German Hiking Association as a “Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland” (Quality Trail Wanderable Germany), with the additional designation “Traumtour” (Dream Tour). It follows sections of the Westerwaldsteig, the Klosterweg and the Wiedweg, and passes the Hochscheider Seifen. This tour thus brings together several named trail sections and a specific landscape feature.

At the Hochscheider Seifen, eroded basalt basins and rock faces lie beside the trail. These formations give this section a distinctive character within the hike. When choosing between the tours, the Bärenkopp therefore offers both certified trail classification and a connection to the Hochscheider Seifen. Trail routes may change; check the current route before your hike.

The Große Krippenweg in the Wiedtal

The hiking route “Großer Krippenweg im Wiedtal um das Weihnachtsdorf Waldbreitbach” (Great Nativity Trail in the Wiedtal around the Christmas Village of Waldbreitbach) crosses the heights of Hochscheid and Verscheid. This means it includes another named highland location in addition to Hochscheid. The B1 is also associated with the heights of Hochscheid, and additionally passes through the stream valleys of Fockenbach and Dasbach; it is described as a circular hiking trail.

When planning, you can choose a trail based on the feature that matters for your stay: the W2 has a specified distance and approximate walking time, the B1 is a circular hike across the heights and through stream valleys, and the Bärenkopp passes the Hochscheider Seifen. The Große Krippenweg crosses the heights of Hochscheid and Verscheid. This lets you plan your hikes around a specific trail profile before looking for a hotel for your stay in Hochscheid.
