Richert is a district of Puderbach. A large part of the municipal area lies within the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park. When looking for a hotel in Richert, trails and destinations in Puderbacher Land may be a factor. They vary in starting point, length and theme: Burgweg 1 was described from Richert in 2018, the 16-km cycling and hiking trail starts and ends at the community centre in Puderbach, and other routes run through Puderbacher Land. This makes it easy to plan your day around a hike, a nature destination or a bike tour.

Reichenstein Castle Ruins and Burgweg 1

A route description from 2018 took Burgweg 1 from Richert along a meadow path that gently descends to Reichenstein Castle Ruins. The ruins lie within the municipality of Puderbach and were probably built around 1310 by Ludwig III of Reichenstein, who established his family seat there. Burgweg 1 passes directly by the ruins. As the description dates from 2018, check the latest trail information before setting out on a hike.

You can arrange guided tours and visits to the ruins by telephone with the Puderbacher Land Tourist Information Office at 02684 / 858-160. Please coordinate your visit before travelling. This lets you include the visit in your plans rather than assume it is a fixed part of a day’s hike.

Trails in the Municipality and Region

The castle trails are circular routes, so you can generally join the route at any point. Burgweg 2 passes through the Werlenbach valley to the Dürrholz Nature Discovery Trail and is about 17.6 km long. On the nature trail, you can learn about the forest, its animals and plants, as well as hunting and forestry. If you would like to explore a nature theme alongside the landscape on your tour, the forest provides a common thread here. On Burgweg 3, you can watch Heck cattle in a landscape far from traffic. The via ferrata at Hölderstein lies directly on the WesterwaldSteig and is marked as an alternative route.

Cycling: Route Length and Starting Point

The “Rund um Puderbach” cycling and hiking trail is 16 km long and starts and ends at the community centre in Puderbach on Barentoner Straße. Richert is marked on a map of the route. The “Puderbacher Land” cycling route is a circular route of around 45 km through the Westerwald, across the heights of the Niederwesterwald and through the region’s stream valleys. Parts of the route follow paved sections, while much of it runs along unpaved and gravel farm and forest tracks. You can choose any point as the start and finish of this circular route.

The 16-km loop has a designated starting and finishing point at the community centre; for the 45-km loop, you can choose your own start and finish points. Length and starting point are therefore two practical factors to compare when planning your tour.

Check the Bus Service

The VRM timetable valid from 10 December 2023 listed the “Richert Abzweigung” stop on line 102 between “Reichenstein Burg” and “Puderbach Verbandsgemeinde”. If you plan to travel by bus, check the current timetable before your journey.
