Fachbach: Trails, the Lahn and industrial history
Accommodation in Fachbach
Fachbach offers several ways to shape your stay: you can explore hiking trails, activities on the Lahn or the town’s history. Would you mainly like to hike, experience the region on the water or learn more about Fachbach’s historical connections? The trails and activities described here provide practical guidance, without limiting your stay to just one theme.
Hiking along historic routes
The Fachbach Circular Trail starts and ends at the Dorfplatz car park. It follows an old postal route and passes the Marien-Felsen Chapel. A local legend links the chapel to women who are said to have hidden from soldiers during the Thirty Years’ War. This story belongs to local folklore and should be understood as a legend, not as a verified historical record. As well as offering a hike, the circular trail provides tangible connections to the town’s history.
The Willi Hufnagel Trail offers a different focus, with views across the Lahn Valley. It is named after Willi Hufnagel, who is remembered as a passionate hiker and advocate for the conservation of nature and local traditions. Hufnagel also wrote the first account of Fachbach’s village history. If you are choosing between the trails, the Fachbach Circular Trail focuses on the old postal route and chapel, while the Willi Hufnagel Trail highlights the views and its namesake.
Activities on the Lahn
There are various ways to enjoy the water. Alahna SUP rents out inflatable boards and hardboards for an hour or longer. Its offerings also include guided tours on the Lahn and daily beginner courses. Check the current availability of tours, courses and boards before your trip.
Kanuverleih GM Sports offers Canadian canoes for two, three, four or five people, as well as single and double kayaks. Tour options include day trips, multi-day tours, group trips and company outings. The boat types and tour formats make it easy to narrow down your options based on the type of boat and the kind of outing you want. Check availability and booking terms before your trip.
Industrial history and winegrowing
Nieverner Hütte is located within the municipal area of Fachbach and is considered one of the most impressive industrial monuments in Rhineland-Palatinate. Its history dates back to its founding in 1671. Cannons were initially made there, followed later by items including cookware, cast-iron building components, stoves and railings. The works closed in 1932. The range of products illustrates how production shifted from early cannon casting to various household and construction components. Fachbach is also associated with winegrowing: the town became known for it.
