Reinsfeld lies in Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park at the foot of Rösterkopf. For a trip focused on the outdoors, hiking and cycling offer specific options. When choosing a hotel, you can first consider whether a circular trail, a longer hiking route or a cycling route best fits your plans. The routes differ in length and course; some start in Reinsfeld, while others form part of longer connections.

Landscape at Rösterkopf

At 708 metres, Rösterkopf is the highest point in the Osburg Forest. Reinsfeld lies at its foot. Two nature reserves illustrate different scales: Osterbachtal near Reinsfeld covers 24 hectares and was designated a nature reserve in 1999. Wadrilltal Nature Reserve, between Felsenmühle and Grimburg, covers around 213 hectares. In terms of area, Wadrilltal is therefore considerably larger than Osterbachtal.

Hiking: Circular Trail and Longer Route

The Frau Holle Dream Loop offers a clearly defined hiking option: the circular trail is around nine kilometres long, starts in Reinsfeld and follows the Lauschbach and Wadrill valleys. The Saar-Hunsrück-Steig is also associated with hiking around Reinsfeld; it extends for 410 kilometres over 27 stages and has a branch to Trier. The figures answer different planning questions: around nine kilometres for the circular trail starting in Reinsfeld, and 410 kilometres over 27 stages for the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig. If you plan to hike the Frau Holle loop, check current trail conditions before setting out, as they may change.

Cycling and the Bike Bus

The Ruwer-Hochwald Cycle Route offers a different focus for cycling: more than 90 percent of the route follows the former Ruwer Railway line. A 6.3-kilometre section runs between Hermeskeil and Reinsfeld. The route is considered family-friendly; Reinsfeld also has an adventure playground. The former railway line describes the character of the cycle route, while the section between the two towns identifies a specific stretch. As an additional transport option, the RegioRadler Ruwer-Hochwald connects Reinsfeld with the Moselle Valley and Türkismühle, carrying up to 22 bicycles. Check the latest timetable details and bicycle transport information before travelling.

Local History and Practical Planning

Reinsfeld was first mentioned in 981 under the name “Reionis campus”. The patronage of Saint Remigius is associated with an old parish tradition; the settlement is recorded as a parish as early as 1330. The two dates refer to different milestones: the early mention of the name and the later parish history.

The Bürger & Tourist Information organises rentals of the Heimatverein’s barbecue hut. From May to October, rentals are arranged through the information office; during the winter months, they are arranged by telephone. If you would like to include the hut in your stay, make the arrangements directly with the information office.
