Accommodation in Mauel
Hiking in the Dierbach and Prüm Valleys
When planning a trip to Mauel, consider the hiking trails in the Prüm and Dierbach valleys, as well as the area’s historic buildings and monuments. The Islek Pfädchen is an easy circular trail; the Urmauel historic monument zone and individual historic details give the village its own architectural heritage.
The Islek Pfädchen and Other Trails
The easy Islek Pfädchen – Dierbachtal circular trail near Mauel follows the Dierbach; natural vegetation and a secluded setting characterize this route. Above the Prüm, it first runs alongside a rock face to the Mauelermühle mill. There, the trail crosses the Prüm and then leads back through Mauel in the Prüm Valley.
The first section also follows the Willibrordusweg and Nature Park Südeifel hiking trail No. 21. Another section of the Islek Pfädchen in the Dierbach Valley follows the Devon Trail route in NaturWanderPark delux. Thus, the connections to the Willibrordusweg and hiking trail No. 21 are on the start of the circular route, while the connection to the Devon Trail is on the section in the Dierbach Valley.
On the return leg, the Islek Pfädchen trail offers views of the wooded slopes along the Prüm. There are picnic spots at the Mauelermühle mill and at the starting point on the Prüm. Parking is available right at the starting point, at the hiking car park by the bridge before Mauel. Check local information about picnic spots and parking before your trip.
Another hiking option is the Dierbachtal Trail, which leads from the bridge near Mauel into the Dierbach Valley. This allows you to choose between the easy Islek Pfädchen circular trail and this route into the Dierbach Valley.
Historic Monument Zone and Historic Details
The Urmauel area, west of Mauel, lies on a terrace in the Prüm Valley and is designated as a historic monument zone. It includes two Streckhöfe, traditional long farmsteads.
