Churches, School and Local Traditions

The St. Sebastianus Chapel dates from the 14th century and served as Langenhahn’s parish church until 1924. The Church of the Sacred Heart was built between 1922 and 1924 from local basalt in the Neo-Baroque style. The construction dates illustrate the different historical periods of the two religious buildings. The historic Old School is used by the local church choir as a rehearsal space. The autumn market is held every year in the former schoolyard and market square of the Old School. Dates may vary; if you would like to include the market in your travel plans, check the specific date.

At the St. Anne’s Fountain complex, the Anna pump is preserved as a monument to the historic water supply. It is still decorated for the Feast of St. Anne on July 26. This place thus brings together a testament to the former water supply and a local tradition held on a fixed date.

In Hinterkirchen, the traditional bakehouse is still operational, and a village fountain dating from 1988 continues to supply water. These functions may change, so check their current status before visiting.
