Wittgert: Hiking and Historic Local Details
Accommodation in Wittgert
Wittgert lies at the foot of the Westerwald on a gentle slope near the Saynbach; the pottery town of Ransbach-Baumbach is about four kilometers away. When looking for a hotel in Wittgert, hiking and historic local details offer different points of focus. The RB5 and RB6 routes provide clear guidance for walks; the fountain, wayside cross, and half-timbered house offer a cultural and historical perspective on the town and its surroundings.
Hiking between a circular trail and a long-distance trail
The RB5 – Wirscheid-Rembser Hof is an easy circular hike covering 8.3 kilometers. The route passes through high forest via Rembser Hof to Wirscheid; from the high ground near Wirscheid, the view stretches far across the Westerwald. The RB5 can be accessed from the Sieben Wege parking lot; the parking area is on the K127 between Wittgert and Ransbach-Baumbach. This gives you both the route length and a specific access point to consider when planning.
The RB6 runs as a circular trail around Wittgert and climbs to the Breitenauer Grillhütte. Its official starting point is at the Haiderbach school center in Wittgert, where there are several parking spaces. You can weigh up different aspects: the RB5’s easy rating and 8.3-kilometer distance, and the RB6’s circular route around Wittgert and climb to its destination.
The WesterwaldSteig offers a much longer hiking perspective in the broader Westerwald travel destination: this long-distance trail stretches over 235 kilometers and has 16 stages. This is a different scale of planning from the RB5’s 8.3 kilometers. Check the current route planner before setting off.

A cast-iron running fountain dating from the second half of the 19th century stands on BrunnenstraĂźe.
