Kubschütz combines a hilly landscape with the Koboldsteig and various attractions. If you are planning a stay, Czorneboh, the Kreckwitz Heights and the places along the themed trail offer useful points of reference for planning your outings. A stage of the Ecumenical Pilgrimage Route also passes through the municipality.

Landscape between Czorneboh and the Kreckwitz Heights

Kubschütz is part of the Lusatian Uplands; the terrain is hilly along the Czorneboh range. The municipality stretches from Czorneboh, at 556 metres, in the south to the Kreckwitz Heights in the north, which lie at 195 metres. These two elevations mark different landscape areas within the municipality and help you get your bearings from south to north.

Czorneboh is also home to an observation tower: the tower at the Czorneboh mountain inn is considered the oldest observation tower in Upper Lusatia. This distinction makes it a notable landmark in the landscape; on its own, it says nothing about current visitor access.

Attractions and local traditions

Attractions in Kubschütz include the church in Purschwitz, the Blücher monument in the Kreckwitz Heights, the Monarchs’ Hill in Jenkwitz and the crocus meadow in Kreckwitz. The crocus meadow is in Kreckwitz Palace Park. If you plan to visit during the flowering season, bear in mind that the timing of the bloom varies from year to year.

The organ in Purschwitz Church has the only Zimbelstern (cymbelstern) in its parish. The Zimbelstern activates a bell mechanism in which a star visibly spins. The Mittagsfrau bench, also known as the Scipata-Maratha bench, stands in the village square in Kubschütz. It is associated with a local Sorbian legend about the Mittagsfrau (Noon Woman). Together, the church, the bench and the other attractions mentioned here offer a variety of cultural and scenic highlights.

The Koboldsteig circular trail

The Koboldsteig is a family-friendly themed hiking trail in the municipality of Kubschütz. Its features include audio stations, picture panels, rest areas and natural attractions. The route starts at the playground in Rachlau and climbs towards the summit of Czorneboh. It passes the Teufelsbecken (Devil’s Basin) and continues to Hromadnik, also known as Döhlener Berg, with its rock formations. The circular trail returns to Rachlau via Schönberger Pass.

The circular trail is eight kilometres long and marked with the Kobold logo. Other details are also important when planning your time: the trail is rated moderate to difficult, has an elevation gain of 260 metres and takes approximately four hours. The description of the route as a family-friendly themed trail sits alongside this difficulty rating; you can take both into account when deciding whether to hike it. Check the latest route information before setting out.

There are car parks and additional access points for the Koboldsteig in Rachlau, at Czorneboh and at Schönberger Pass. As parking arrangements may change, check them locally before setting out. This allows you to choose a starting point and schedule that suit you, while keeping the stated distance and duration in mind.
