When choosing a hotel in Rötha, you can start by considering the activities you have planned. The town combines cultural attractions with opportunities to explore on foot or by bike: St. George’s Church and St. Mary’s Church are known for their Gottfried Silbermann organs, while the castle park and reservoir offer a focus on the landscape. Rötha is a destination for nature lovers and a starting point for hiking or cycling. This lets you plan your trip around the places that interest you.

Churches, Organs and Architectural History

The churches tell different stories of architectural history. St. Mary’s Church is a former Gothic pilgrimage church. The planned large church building was never completed, so mainly the choir remains. Its architectural features include a Late Gothic hall church with a net vault and a three-sided choir. At St. George’s Church, the western twin-tower complex dates from the 12th century; the adjoining three-aisled Late Gothic hall church was built around 1500. Both churches are notable for their Gottfried Silbermann organs, and interest in organ tours and visits remains high.

The town and local history museum is housed in Rötha’s former prison, built in 1910. While the churches showcase ecclesiastical architectural history, the former prison points to a different type of building in the town.

Castle Park and Reservoir

The main path through the castle park leads from Böhlener Straße to the former castle site and onward into the floodplain forest. You will find places to linger by the pond and among the old trees. A monument commemorates a meeting of monarchs during the Battle of Leipzig.

Rötha Reservoir is located within a landscape conservation area. Walkers and anglers can relax there and enjoy nature. Well-maintained cycle paths and hiking trails also offer an opportunity to get active outdoors. In contrast to the churches, the focus here is on paths and landscape.

Routes through Rötha

The Luther Trail Saxony is a pilgrimage and hiking trail; in Rötha, it runs along Kreudnitzer Straße and Marienstraße to the town hall. The Leipzig Green Ring also reaches the town, passing through the town centre in the direction of Böhlen. The routes therefore differ in their points of reference: the Luther Trail’s streets are named all the way to the town hall, while the Green Ring is described by its route through the town centre towards Böhlen.

Plan Your Journey

From Leipzig Central Station, the route first takes you by S-Bahn to Böhlen, then by bus to Rötha Markt; from the stop, it is about a two-minute walk. Check current routes and connections before travelling. By car, Rötha is accessible via the B2 and the A72 exits near Böhlen or Rötha. As road layouts may change due to construction work or traffic regulations, check the access route before setting off.
