Rechenberg-Bienenmühle – Nature and Brewing History
Accommodation in Rechenberg-Bienenmühle
Natural Landscape and Local History
Rechenberg-Bienenmühle lies in the Ore Mountains/Vogtland Nature Park, in the upper valley of the Freiberger Mulde and in an area shaped by extensive forests. The town combines this scenic setting with brewing history, everyday culture and leisure activities. If you are planning a stay, you can start by choosing what interests you most: historic townscapes and exhibitions, a glimpse into past ways of life, or time at the eco-bath.
Brewing History in the Historic Center
In the historic center of Rechenberg, castle rock, the former castle grounds, half-timbered houses and the preserved historic brewery complex come together. These features offer different ways to explore the town’s history: the architectural ensemble defines the center, while the Rechenberg Saxon Brewery Museum focuses on the history of brewing. The museum opened in 2002 after restoration and presents more than 450 years of brewing history. A visit can combine a guided tour of the brewery facilities with a beer tasting in the vaulted cellars of the former malt house. This lets you experience the subject through both historic buildings and a guided tour and tasting.
Clausnitz Local Heritage House and Rafting House
The Clausnitz Local Heritage House offers a different focus: life and work around 1880 and in the years that followed. The permanent exhibition “Journey into the Past” takes visitors through historic rooms on guided tours and explores the daily lives of their ancestors up to around 1880. On display are hay and straw weaving, historic clothing, toys and musical instruments; temporary exhibitions complement the presentation. Unlike the brewery museum, the focus here is on past ways of life and the objects associated with them. The Rafting House adds an episode from more recent local history: after the 2002 flood, it was saved, rebuilt and reopened as both a clubhouse and a museum.
Leisure at the Eco-Bath
The eco-bath offers a different focus. It has a 50-meter pool, a non-swimmer pool and a children’s pool, as well as step-free access and a 600-square-meter sunbathing lawn. Facilities also include a playground, table tennis, outdoor chess, volleyball, a climbing rock and a snack bar. The local offerings can therefore be explored according to your interests: the museum and local heritage house offer insights into local and everyday history, while the eco-bath focuses on swimming and other leisure activities.

Mittelsachsen as the Wider Region
The wider travel destination of Mittelsachsen offers additional landscape and cultural highlights. Rochlitzer Berg is 353 meters high and a remnant of volcanic activity; its red porphyry tuff is considered unique in Germany and Europe. Rochsburg Castle has housed a museum since 1911. The exhibition “People Make Clothes” presents 52 costumes from 1,000 years of European fashion history. These regional destinations offer different themes from the local brewing history and heritage house in Rechenberg-Bienenmühle; they are part of Mittelsachsen as a wider travel destination.
