Rossau offers a range of starting points for a stay, including its Romanesque church, a water-ski cableway and a race track. Trails in the Zschopau Valley offer a different focus on nature and hiking; the wider Mittelsachsen destination has further cultural and scenic attractions. The places and activities below cover different themes and give you a concrete starting point for choosing your excursions.

Rossau Church and its architectural history

Rossau Church is a Romanesque hall church dating from the 12th or 13th century. Its architectural and decorative history spans several periods: the winged altarpiece dates from 1521, and the Gothic roof turret from 1529. The organ was built between 1660 and 1670 and is considered one of the oldest in Saxony. The churchyard is also protected. The different dates make clear that the church’s construction and furnishings come from different centuries.

Leisure and trails

Rossau has a water-ski cableway on the edge of its commercial area and a race track in the Rossauer Großwald forest. The two facilities offer different kinds of leisure activity and complement the church’s historical focus with other themes. Check the latest information on operating hours and access before making plans.

A hike in the Zschopau Valley can take in shallow sections of the river, interesting plant life and pastures. The route can continue via the Krumbach ferry towards Biensdorf and the suspension bridge near Sachsenburg. You can also combine the hike with a ride on the historic mining railway in Schönborn-Dreiwerden. Check the Krumbach ferry’s current timetable before your trip.

Another destination is in Schönborn-Dreiwerden, in the municipality of Rossau: at the “Alte Hoffnung Erbstolln” visitor mine, visitors travel by boat underground. Before setting out, check the visitor mine’s current operating arrangements.
