Gremersdorf: Coastal Landscape and Rural History
Accommodation in Gremersdorf
Gremersdorf combines a coastal landscape with a municipality shaped by agriculture. Natural beaches and steep cliffs give the area a maritime character, while historic farm and manor buildings reflect its rural architectural history. When planning your trip, you can therefore focus on two different interests: nature by the sea, or the historic structures of the villages and estates.
Coastal Landscape and Rural Character
The Gremersdorf area has a natural beach alongside a steep cliff that rises up to 15 metres. The coastal cliffs are also highlighted for their sunset views. The beach and the steep cliff offer different impressions of the landscape: a natural beach setting and a distinctly rising coastline.
Cycling is recommended for exploring the 13 villages and four estates. This takes you beyond the coastal area to discover the municipality’s rural character. So if you explore Gremersdorf by bike, the focus is not just on the beach and steep cliff, but also on the villages and estates.
Farms and Architectural History
The farmstead at Am Lindenplatz 6 is one of Gremersdorf’s listed historic buildings and dates from the 19th century. The farm includes a former sheep barn from the same period. This dating links the farmstead and the barn, while the barn’s historic status should not be taken as a promise that it is still in use today.
In Bollbrügge, the circular barn is part of a listed estate and serves as a barn. Together with the farmstead at Lindenplatz, it illustrates two different forms of rural architectural history. Gremersdorf’s municipality is considered agriculturally shaped, a character reflected in the role of farms and estates in local history.
Camping and Mobile Homes
You can swim directly at the campsite. Practical facilities include two restroom buildings with washrooms, washing machines and dryers, as well as private shower and toilet cubicles available for rent. There is also a fitness room with various pieces of equipment. Groups are welcome, and youth camping is also possible. Restaurant meals can be ordered to take away.
The mobile homes have separate sleeping areas for parents and children. They are equipped with a separate toilet, a shower, a washbasin, a living area, a kitchenette and a television. Mobile homes MH001 to MH004 have outdoor terraces with views across the grounds to the Baltic Sea. The information about the mobile homes therefore distinguishes them by layout and facilities; the Baltic Sea view is specifically mentioned for these selected models.
Ostholstein as a Regional Setting
The wider travel destination of Ostholstein offers further cultural attractions in different formats and at different times of year. Every summer, the Eutin Festival stages a changing programme of operas or operettas outdoors. The Ostholstein Museum in Eutin presents changing exhibitions and a permanent exhibition about Eutin at the height of its prosperity around 1800. Kloster Cismar in the municipality of Grömitz combines changing exhibitions with concerts in its vaulted hall during the winter months.
A key archaeological site is the Oldenburg Wall in Oldenburg in Holstein, one of Schleswig-Holstein’s most significant archaeological monuments. The Oldenburg Wall Museum uses excavation finds and reconstructions to explain the history of the ring fort and the Slavs in Ostholstein. Nature enthusiasts will find an immersive nature experience for children and adults at the Natureum Steinwarder in Heiligenhafen, engaging all the senses. Hiking, cycling, wildlife watching and exploring nature are among the activities available at Bungsberg.
