Nature watching, waterside paths and named cultural and historical attractions come together around Lake Dobersdorf. You can choose different focuses when planning your visit: the circular trail, the protected wetland on the eastern shore or activities with a rental boat. Fishing is also one of the possibilities on the lake, but it is generally done from a boat.

Lake and protected landscape

Lake Dobersdorf is a calcareous, unstratified lowland lake with a relatively small catchment area. The Natura 2000 FFH site “Calcareous fen meadow on the eastern shore of Lake Dobersdorf,” with EU code 1627-391, lies on the eastern shore. The protected area is shaped by hills and valleys and also features several near-natural small streams and spring areas. The lake drains into Lake Passade via the Jarbek. The wider destination of Plön broadens the view from the individual lake to a landscape between the Baltic Sea and Holstein Switzerland. Plön district has around 80 lakes; Lake Großer Plöner covers 29 km² and Lake Selenter 22 km². The district’s approximately 50-kilometre Baltic coastline offers a different focus: swimming, sailing, surfing, diving, boat trips, offshore sailing tours, cutter trips and surf fishing are all possible there. The district also has a signposted 850-kilometre cycling network and developed Nordic walking routes; the size of the cycling network may change.

Circular trail and cultural and historical stops

A hiking trail around Lake Dobersdorf provides access to the protected FFH wetland. The circular trail also offers opportunities for nature watching. Cultural and historical attractions along the Lake Dobersdorf route include the ice cellar in Bookhorn woodland, the remains of a medieval motte near Jasdorf and Dobersdorf Manor.

The manor house was built in 1770–1772 for Christopher von Blome and is considered an important Rococo work. The route thus combines impressions of nature and landscape with named historical stops. Another route starts in Schlesen and follows a foot and cycle path alongside Lake Dobersdorf. Trail conditions may change; check the current state of the paths in advance.

Rental boats, fishing and wildlife watching

You can explore the lake by rental boat from either side. Rental boat jetties are located in Tökendorf and Schlesen; check availability before planning your visit. Anglers consider Lake Dobersdorf a predator-fishing lake with strong zander and pike stocks. Fishing is generally done from a boat. Check the applicable rules before fishing.

Wildlife watching may also be a factor in your plans: white-tailed eagles, red kites and marsh harriers are reported around Lakes Dobersdorf and Passade. Such sightings are seasonal and not guaranteed. The options on the water therefore differ clearly by focus: the circular trail and the foot and cycle path contrast with rental boats, while fishing usually also involves using a boat.
