Field and woodland paths, the Mühlenau and early historical references offer different starting points for a stay in Köhn. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Köhn, you can plan around walks and cycling tours, a day swimming at the bathing area in Pülsen, or a historical perspective on Köhn and Schloss Salzau.

Hiking, Cycling and the Baltic Sea

Field and woodland paths in Köhn invite you to hike and cycle. Bisterfeld Forest is a destination for walks. The Bisterfeld and Pülser Vieh forests near Köhn also invite you to enjoy walks in a natural setting. This puts a variety of landscapes for walking and cycling in the spotlight.

The shortest route from Köhn to the Baltic Sea beach at Hohenfelde is 6 km, with a cycle path running along its entire length. You can include this connection in your plans for a day at the beach. The field and woodland paths offer a different focus for walks and cycling tours inland.

The Mühlenau and the Bathing Area

The Mühlenau flows through the municipality of Köhn and is the Selenter See's only direct outlet to the Baltic Sea. Many sections of its banks in Köhn are protected. The river and its protected banks thus form a distinct part of the landscape, separate from a bathing spot.

In Pülsen, there is a shallow, unsupervised bathing cove on the Selenter See. The bathing area includes lawns, a playground and accessible toilets. The cove is in a nature reserve. Because of the surrounding protected area, sailing and stand-up paddling are not permitted at the Pülsen bathing area.

Sailors and surfers can access the Selenter See from Pratjau/Fargau or Grabensee. These are different access points from the Pülsen bathing area, where separate restrictions apply. If you are planning water sports, this distinction can help you choose the right place for your activity.

Historical Traces and Schloss Salzau

Köhn was first mentioned in an official document in 1404. A documented reference to Pülsen dates from 1362; at the time, the name “villam Poltze” appears. These two dates offer different historical reference points for the two places.

Schloss Salzau is accessible by bicycle from Köhn. The castle was formerly a cultural centre. In the past, music events were held there every year, including JazzBaltica. The cultural history of Schloss Salzau thus adds a look back at past events to the historical references to Köhn and Pülsen.

Plön as a Regional Setting

The wider Plön travel destination offers a view of the broader landscape. Plön District lies between the Baltic Sea and the Holstein Switzerland region and includes nearly 50 kilometres of Baltic Sea coastline and around 80 lakes. These include the Großer Plöner See, at 29 km², and the Selenter See, at 22 km²; both are the largest lakes in Schleswig-Holstein. Large parts of the district belong to the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park, which covers 75,000 hectares and offers opportunities to experience nature as well as habitats for rare animals.

There is also a regional scale for cycling tours: the signposted cycle route network in Plön District covers 850 kilometres. The routes of individual trails may change. The regional information about the coast, lakes and nature park refers to Plön District; these are not features of Köhn.
