Discover Wisch: village history and coast
Accommodation in Wisch
If you are considering Wisch as a holiday destination, you can plan your stay around several specific interests: its historic village structure, paths through hedgerow and meadow landscapes, or the beach and water sports. In Heidkate, you can enjoy a different view of the coast, with a natural beach and a range of activities.
Village history and getting your bearings
Wisch is one of the oldest villages in the Probstei and was first mentioned in 1216. Historic settlement patterns are visible in the street layout and in preserved historic buildings and farmsteads. The Peace Oak stands in the village centre; a circular route runs along Redder, Moor and Dorfstraße. This gives you a named landmark in the village centre and three specific street names along the circular route to help you get your bearings.
Country lanes, dike and route planning
A 4.5-metre-high dike protects Wisch and its land from flooding. Country lanes wind through hedgerow and meadow landscapes to the beach and can be used for walking, cycling and horse riding. Wisch also has direct access to the Probstei hiking and cycling network. SprottenFlotte stations are located at the corner of Postweg and Kaiserkoppel and at the Heidkate car park. For route planning, both access to the Probstei network and the two specifically named locations can help you find your way. In winter, children from the surrounding area use Jägersberg as a sledging hill. Wisch’s tourism area also has a campsite.
Beach and activities in Heidkate
Heidkate has a 3.7-kilometre-long, fine-sand natural beach with no beach fee. As fee arrangements may change in future, check the current rules before your trip if needed. The Heidkate car park is directly behind the dike and can be reached via the B502 and K33. The Heidkate lighthouse is a landmark and a useful point of reference for the beach. The dog beach extends across three groynes. Two sections are designated for flying kites; there is also a large surfers’ beach with a surf school. Activities available include surfing, kitesurfing, stand-up paddleboarding and surf fishing.
Plön in its regional context
The wider destination of Plön includes around 80 lakes in Plön District. Lake Großer Plöner See covers 29 km², while Lake Selenter See covers 22 km². The district lies between the Baltic Sea and Holstein Switzerland and has around 50 kilometres of Baltic coastline. The regional landscape thus stretches from the coast to the large lakes.
Choose your travel focus
If you are mainly looking to spend time outdoors, the available routes are an important point of reference; for coastal activities, the features of Heidkate are relevant. Then compare the details for the individual hotels for your trip.
