Neuberend offers several ways to shape your stay: trails through meadows and woodlands, opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities, and tangible evidence of the town’s history. If you are looking for a hotel, you can choose what to focus on depending on whether you prefer walking, cycling or exploring historical topics. There are various accommodation options in Neuberend.

Local history and culture

The grave of Danish soldier Lauritz Chr. Jensen Smaagard is in a private garden at Klosterreihe 77 and is a protected monument. It can be visited by prior arrangement with the residents of the neighbouring house. The village’s origins are also part of its history: in the mid-18th century, 21 colonist farms on the Berender Heath were brought together to form Neuberend. Neuberend is recorded as having a population of 105 on 1 October 1764, when it was considered fully established. This distinguishes the village’s founding from a later population figure. Cultural events in Neuberend are coordinated by the local cultural association. If you are interested, check the dates for your travel period.

Walking, cycling and outdoor activities

Numerous hiking trails lead to the nearby Königsdamm meadows and into the surrounding woods. They offer a way to include the meadow and woodland landscape in your stay on foot. Neuberend also has a recreation area with a barbecue spot and play equipment. Several nearby lakes invite visitors to swim, and horse riding is available in the town.

A well-developed network of cycle paths connects Neuberend with the surrounding towns and makes it possible to explore the area by bike. Cycling thus complements the trails to the Königsdamm meadows and into the woods: on foot, the local meadow and woodland landscape takes centre stage, while a bike lets you include nearby towns in your itinerary. You can choose between a walk in nature and exploring by bike.

The Geltinger Birk covers 773 hectares and is the largest nature reserve in the Schleswig-Flensburg district. It has well-developed trails and guided walks that share information about the local flora and fauna. More than 130 bird species can be observed on Holnis, including around 65 breeding species.
