Steinberg lies directly on the Flensburg Fjord, with views stretching towards Denmark. Around eight kilometres of varied natural and activity beach shape the coast, while inland, the rolling landscape of Angeln provides the setting. This combination gives you two clearly distinct landscape settings to consider when choosing your destination.

Coast, routes and inland areas

Cycling and walking routes run along the beach and through the inland areas. When planning, you can consider two questions side by side: Would you like to get around on foot or by bike, and are you more drawn to the coast or to the hills of Angeln? The first question concerns how you get around, the second the landscape setting. This lets you weigh up activities and the two types of landscape separately before choosing your hotel destination.

Visitor facilities

Visitor facilities include three campsites with a combined total of 500 pitches, restaurants, the Kulturscheune Oestergaard cultural venue, and the Norgaardholz bathing facility, with DLRG involvement. This covers a range of needs: staying at a campsite, dining, culture and swimming. The capacity of 500 pitches refers to the three campsites combined, not to the other facilities. If one of these options is essential to your stay, check its availability before travelling; this also applies to planning capacity at the campsites.

More to explore in the wider Schleswig-Flensburg destination

Haithabu and the Danewerk have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites since June 2018; more than 25 kilometres of the Danewerk rampart still remain. The museum and the historic Idstedt memorial site provide information about German-Danish history surrounding the uprising of 1848 and the Battle of Idstedt. From 1986 to 2012, Kappeln served as a filming location for the TV series “Der Landarzt” under the name “Deekelsen”.

The natural areas in the wider Schleswig-Flensburg destination also offer a variety of points of interest. Geltinger Birk covers a total of 773 hectares and is the largest nature reserve in the Schleswig-Flensburg district. It has well-maintained paths and guided walks where visitors can learn about flora and fauna. On Holnis, the northernmost point of Schleswig-Holstein’s young moraine landscape, more than 130 bird species can be observed, including around 65 breeding species. In Schlei Nature Park, the landscape features gentle hills, forests, hedgerow landscapes, rapeseed and grain fields, sandy beaches and bathing coves. The Schlei’s brackish-water areas provide habitats for numerous endangered bird species.

If you want to cycle in the wider Schleswig-Flensburg destination, you can follow the SchleiUferTörn: this 25-kilometre circular cycling route runs around the middle section of the Schlei and starts in Arnis. Guided nature tours are offered in Schlei Nature Park; the Viking-Frisian Way, the Ochsenweg and 15 signposted themed cycling routes also pass through the landscape there. The cycling options therefore differ: there is a 25-kilometre circular route as well as 15 signposted themed cycling routes.
