Süderhackstedt
Accommodation in Süderhackstedt
For a stay in Süderhackstedt, cycling, nature and culture can be considered as different interests. The village is included on the 25 km Treene Circular Route; the FFH area Wälder im Süderhackstedtfeld adds a specific natural feature. When preparing your trip, you can also take into account the route’s surfaces and signage, as well as the distances to larger centres.
Natural landscape of Süderhackstedtfeld
The Wälder im Süderhackstedtfeld protected area is a 76-hectare FFH area. The deciduous forest lies on an old moraine ridge gently sloping southwards, on the edge of the Arlau lowlands. The forest communities include several stands that are partly endangered. This means that, alongside the cycling tour, the forest, landform and lowlands can also be considered as nature themes in their own right.
Cycling: circular route and multi-day tours
Süderhackstedt is included on the 25 km Treene Circular Route. The tour is designed as a circular route and can be joined at any point. It passes through extensive woodland, meadows and fields, and reaches the Treene at several points. The route alternates between dirt tracks, paved farm roads and asphalt; most of it runs along roads with little traffic and agricultural tracks. When choosing your route, you can therefore take both the landscape and the different surfaces into account.
The published Treene Circular Route is currently not signposted. Check the route information again before setting off if signage is important for your navigation.
The region also has an extensive network of cycling routes for leisure rides. The Stapelholmer Weg and the Ochsenweg together make multi-day cycling tours through the region possible. This offers two different ways to plan a trip: the 25 km circular route and cycling trips lasting several days. The Amt Eggebek area also offers opportunities for hiking, cycling, horse riding and canoeing. In summer, you can canoe on the Treene from the Langstedt launch point.

Culture and history
St. Petrus Church in Eggebek dates back to around 1200 at its core. It is a single-nave Romanesque brick church. The Wanderup local history museum explores the development of villages and agriculture over the past hundred years. These offer two distinct historical perspectives: older church architecture and the more recent transformation of rural life. If you would like to include either destination in your travel plans, check the visiting arrangements in advance.
In the wider Schleswig-Flensburg destination, Haithabu and the Danewerk have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites since June 2018. More than 25 kilometres of the Danewerk rampart still remain. This historical connection adds a broader chapter in Schleswig-Flensburg’s cultural history to the local themes.
