Culture in the wider Nobitz destination

The Flugwelt Altenburg-Nobitz Museum presents the history of the airfield and topics related to aviation. Founded in 2004, the Flugwelt Altenburg Nobitz e. V. association presents these topics at the Altenburg-Nobitz Museum in a historic building at the airfield. Numerous original aircraft can be seen in the outdoor area; guided tours take visitors through the Greguet Atlantic maritime patrol aircraft and the Trans-All. From April to October, the museum is open on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check the seasonal opening hours before your visit.

The church in Maltis is known for its intact 16th-century furnishings in the rural style. Features include a tombstone for Johannes v. Maltitz dating from 1398, a Poppe organ, and carved angels and figures of Christ on the pulpit. The tombstone and the furnishings represent different periods. A round-arched portal and a radiant door add to the church’s architectural features.

Other Nobitz villages also have distinctive church features: the church in Mockern houses a carved Madonna, while the church in Zürchau has tracery windows dating from when it was built. The church tower clock in Saara has the words “Make use of time” on its face instead of numerals. These features range from a carved figure and windows from the time of construction to an inscription on a clock.
