Discover Dungannon: Culture, Views and Parkland
Accommodation in Dungannon
Ranfurly House represents architectural history and visitor information, while Hill of The O’Neill is known for its historical significance and sweeping panoramic views. Dungannon Park complements these highlights with lakeside walking trails and fishing opportunities.
Cultural history and views
Ranfurly House is a listed former Victorian bank building in the heart of Dungannon. It houses a multimedia exhibition and serves as a visitor information centre. Its former use as a bank, the building’s Victorian character and its current exhibition and information role all come together here. Anyone interested in cultural history will find a tangible connection to Dungannon’s architectural history.
Hill of The O’Neill is one of Ireland’s most significant sites and offers panoramic views across seven of Ulster’s nine counties. Visitors can climb the Viewing Tower to a glass gallery. The site therefore combines historical significance with far-reaching views across Ulster and the opportunity to climb the tower to the gallery.
Lakeside walks and fishing
The 7 km Dungannon Earls Walking Trail runs from Hill of The O’Neill to Dungannon Park. Along the route are Railway Park, Drumcoo Park, Lettervad Wood and Windmill Wood. The trail therefore passes several named parks and woodland areas; by contrast, the three scenic walking trails in Dungannon Park are set in a lakeside environment.
Dungannon Park covers 70 acres and surrounds a 12-acre fishing lake. Woodland trails, landscaped gardens and open parkland surround the lake. Together with the three walking trails, the parkland offers different ways to enjoy time outdoors: you can include the named trail between the hill and the park in your plans, or focus on the lakeside walks.
Fishing is also one of the activities available at Dungannon Park Lake. The lake is regularly stocked with rainbow trout, and there are bankside fishing spots and designated fishing platforms. Fishing lessons, boats and all fishing equipment are available there by prior booking. Plan to book in advance if you would like to use any of these fishing facilities.
Golf and other activities
Dungannon Golf Club has a parkland par-72 course with views across the Tyrone countryside. The club also offers indoor golf year-round to help players learn and develop their skills. Visitors can come to play golf, and tee times can be booked online. Check the information on fees and availability before making plans, as both may change.
Dungannon Leisure Centre offers a wide range of classes. Book a class or drop in; a class costs £5. Check the latest information before your visit, as the class schedule and availability may change.
