Discover Clutton: Golf, Wine and Architectural Heritage
Accommodation in Clutton
When looking for a hotel in Clutton, you can first decide which themes you want to shape your stay: active pursuits, wine or historic architecture. Vertigo at Carden and the golf facilities at Carden Park offer different sporting options; winegrowing adds another distinctive element. There are also architectural details at Clutton Lodge (East Lodge) and Rose Cottage.
High Ropes and Golf
Vertigo at Carden is a high ropes course with two difficulty levels and a 210-metre zipline. The two levels provide a graded experience, while the zipline adds a specific highlight with its length. Carden Park also has two championship golf courses. The driving range is separate: it is open to everyone, regardless of golfing ability. This lets you choose between the high ropes course, the golf courses and the range based on the kind of activity you have in mind. Restrictions and availability at Vertigo, as well as the range’s opening arrangements, may change. Check the latest information before visiting.
Winegrowing and Guided Tours
Carden Park’s vineyard covers three acres and produces up to 10,000 bottles of Carden Park Estate Reserve sparkling wine each year. The grape varieties used are Seyval Blanc and Pinot Noir. Annual production may vary. This gives the wine theme a tangible connection to production, from the named product and grape varieties to the stated, but not constant, number of bottles.
The Vineyard & Wine Tasting Tours offer a separate experience. They include a guided walk through a three-acre vineyard. Topics include grape growing, seasonal growth, harvesting and English winemaking. The programme therefore covers several stages of winegrowing rather than focusing only on the finished product. Tour dates and booking details may change; check them before making plans.
Architecture and Building History
Clutton Lodge (East Lodge) was built around 1830. Its features include a vaulted, rendered brick roof topped by a terracotta urn, as well as round-arched window openings divided into three sections, with iron frames and small panes. The railings at the lodge tell another story: they date from the early 18th century and were made by the Davies Brothers of Croes Foel. These elements bring together two clearly different dates: the lodge dates from around 1830, while the railings are considerably older. Rose Cottage is also listed as a Grade II building.
