If you’re looking for a hotel in Insch, it helps to decide in advance what matters most to your trip. The Connection Museum offers insights into local and district history; historic buildings, a named circular cycling route and golf provide other points of interest. This can help you decide whether a cultural programme, a particular cycling route or the golf course will shape your travel plans.

Museum: history and planning your visit

The Insch Connection Museum tells the story of Insch and the surrounding district through photographs, artefacts and everyday stories. Images, objects and personal accounts offer different ways to explore the past: the displays bring together tangible evidence and stories from daily life, spanning the town and the surrounding district. In 2026, the museum is open on Wednesdays and Sundays from 2 pm to 4 pm, from 1 April to 28 October; admission is free. As these opening hours are seasonal and apply to a specific year, check the schedule before your trip.

The wheelchair-accessible route is easiest via the ramp from the station car park to the platform, then through the waiting room. If you need this route for your visit, you can take the sequence described into account when planning.

Dunnideer and the parish church

At Dunnideer, three structural elements should be distinguished: the remains of a medieval tower, a vitrified wall and an unfinished fortification. Dunnideer Castle was built largely using material from the vitrified fortification. The wall is therefore relevant both as a surviving structure and as a source of building material for the castle. This connection adds a specific building history to the consideration of individual structures.

The scheduled monument known as Insch Old Parish Church and associated memorials includes the west gable of the parish church, the site of the demolished parts of the church and two medieval memorial stones. At the apex of its west gable, Insch Old Parish Church has a bellcote dated 1613. The date refers to this architectural detail; the scheduled monument also extends to the other features listed.

Cycling and golf

The Insch to Oyne Cycle Route is a 19-mile circular route. It can be divided into shorter sections, including Insch–Picardy Stone at 6 miles and Insch–Oyne at 4 miles. The two named sections differ by two miles; both are considerably shorter than the full circuit. This lets you choose a route based on the stated distances.

Insch Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland golf course. Separate changing rooms for men and women, as well as modern shower facilities, are available to members and visitors. Course details and facilities may change; check the information before planning a visit. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer panoramic views across the Old Course and up to Dunnydeer.
