Gourock on the Firth of Clyde: Coast, Paths and Park
Accommodation in Gourock
Gourock stretches along a bend in the Firth of Clyde as a small coastal town. The waterfront path, heated outdoor pool, Gourock Park and ferry or cycling connections offer practical points of reference when planning a stay. You can first decide whether you would rather spend your time by the water, in the park or out and about; then you can choose a hotel to suit your personal travel plans.
Coast and paths
A flat waterfront path about 6.5 kilometres long runs from Gourock through Lunderston Bay to Inverkip. Along the River Clyde, there are views of boats and ferries. Its approximate length and flat route help you assess the distance; conditions may vary, so it is worth checking the path conditions before setting out.
Cyclists also have two routes to choose from, each heading in a different direction and towards a different destination. NCR75 passes through the centre of Gourock and heads east via Kilmacolm and Paisley to North Lanarkshire. NCR753 runs north from Gourock to Inverkip. Check the signage and conditions locally. These options provide a choice between an eastbound route with several places along the way and a northbound route to Inverkip.
Outdoor pool and Gourock Park
Gourock’s heated outdoor pool by the water was built in 1909. Gourock Outdoor Pool has a heated saltwater pool with a water temperature of 29°C and views of the Clyde Estuary. Access for people with disabilities has been improved. If you have specific access requirements, check them directly before your visit.
Gourock Park also combines local history with a variety of park facilities. The grounds around Gourock House were gifted to local residents as Darroch Park and later renamed Gourock Park. Today, the park has an animal area and a large play area. There is also a walled garden with various plants and shrubs, forming a distinct, enclosed garden space of its own.
Performances and other acts take place in the park’s amphitheatre. If you would like to plan your visit around one, check the specific event dates in advance.
Ferry connections and sailing
Gourock has two ferry terminals with connections to Argyll. If a ferry trip is part of your plans, check the operators and timetables before travelling. This will help you plan your onward journey around the actual service.
The Royal Gourock Yacht Club offers sailors and like-minded people a year-round calendar of social and training events. Membership also includes sailing opportunities and social facilities in a historic clubhouse by the water. The club has moorings with access to a tender; if you are considering using them, confirm availability directly with the club.
Choosing a hotel for your stay
Would you like to spend time by the waterfront, visit the outdoor pool or park, or focus on a ferry connection or cycling route? First decide which activities matter for your stay. When choosing a specific hotel, check its address against your plans and compare the options based on your own requirements.
