Ebbw Vale offers several ways to enjoy a trip that combines industrial history, culture and time outdoors. The Ebbw Vale Works Museum and the Ebbw Vale Institute offer insights into different chapters of the town’s history; Festival Park preserves features and sculptures from a 1992 event. There is also a theatre programme, trails and a weekly market to choose from. For activities that depend on dates, it is worth checking the latest information before setting your plans for the day.

Industrial history and townscape

The Ebbw Vale Works Museum is housed in the General Offices, the former headquarters of the steelworks. Its collection includes artefacts and documents relating to the history of iron and steel production in Ebbw Vale. If you are interested in the town’s industrial development, you will find both objects and written records on the subject there. Check the visiting arrangements before you travel.

The Ebbw Vale Institute adds its own history to this picture. The Grade II listed building dates back to 1849 and is considered the oldest institute in Wales. Today, its programme includes creative activities, workshops, training and support; individual offerings may change. If you would like to plan around a particular activity, check before travelling whether it is currently taking place.

The townscape also features striking artworks. The modern town clock on the main street is a stainless-steel sculpture. On 12 September 2025, a steel statue of Steve Jones MBE, OLY was unveiled in Ebbw Vale; it commemorates the athlete’s achievements. The clock and the statue make different statements: one focuses on the design of an urban timepiece, while the other is a memorial to a person. A digital walking route exploring the town’s history launched on 16 July 2025. If you would like to use it, check its current availability in advance.

Theatre, events and leisure

Beaufort Theatre is a venue in Ebbw Vale for drama, dance, live music and events for children. Numerous performances and events take place there throughout the year. The theatre also offers arts activities and workshops. As individual dates may vary, check the current programme before travelling and plan around a specific event.

Festival Park includes woodland and two lakes. The park also contains many original features and sculptures from the 1992 event. Nature and memories of a particular event come together here, though they are not the same subject: woodland and lakes shape the park, while the preserved features refer to its event history.

The Ebbw Fawr Trail starts in Ebbw Vale and runs through the valley around Blaenau Gwent. The route is 6 miles (9.7 kilometres) long and includes some steps. Take this information into account when planning your time and route, and check local conditions before setting out.

Market, sport and getting there

Ebbw Vale Market takes place every Friday. If the market is important to your stay, check the current date before visiting, as the weekly schedule may change. Ebbw Vale Sports Centre offers swimming, sports courts and playing fields. If you are making specific plans, it is advisable to check the sports centre’s current facilities, as these may change.
