Lisvane: Find hotels for your stay
Accommodation in Lisvane
Lisvane brings together several distinct themes for travellers: natural areas, woodland and trails, a historic parkland, and buildings from different periods. If you’re planning a hotel stay, these interests can shape your choice of location. Nature and history can be considered separately when planning your trip, rather than being grouped into a single destination.
Nature and trails in Lisvane
At the heart of Lisvane is Coed-y-Felin, an area of around 16 acres comprising semi-ancient and mixed natural woodland. A waymarked nature trail runs through the woodland. The accompanying leaflet has been updated. The Lisvane & Llanishen Reservoirs comprise two Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs), designated by law. Together, these offer two distinct connections with nature: Coed-y-Felin combines woodland with a waymarked trail, while the reservoirs are distinguished by their legal protection status.
The Nant Fawr Trail runs through Lisvane via Coed y Felin to Parc Cefn Onn. For orientation, it can be distinguished from the woodland nature trail: the Nant Fawr Trail links Lisvane, Coed y Felin and the park, while the nature trail focuses on the woodland itself. If you include both trails in your plans, you can distinguish an interest in woodland as a natural habitat from an interest in the route leading to the park.
Another route is More Capital Walks 11. It starts at a car park on Lisvane Road, just before Church Road. Route information is maintained by Cardiff Ramblers; trail conditions and parking options may change. Check the latest information before setting out. This offers a different planning consideration from the Nant Fawr Trail: there, the route to Parc Cefn Onn is the key point; here, it’s the starting point.
Parkland and nature experiences
Parc Cefn Onn was laid out in the early 20th century and features remarkable exotic specimen trees and shrubs. These individual plants give the parkland its own distinct focus, while the period in which it was created provides a historical connection. Parc Cefn Onn also has a Wildlife Explorer Trail for children. These offer two different points of interest for your plans: the exotic specimen trees and shrubs on the one hand, and the trail specifically designed for children on the other.
Village history and architecture
The current village church in Lisvane dates from the 14th century. Lisvane Baptist Chapel is a listed building, valued for its architectural interest as a simple mid-19th-century country chapel on an older site. The two buildings thus represent different periods: the 14th century is the historical reference point for the church, while the chapel combines mid-19th-century architecture with an older site.
